I honestly don't even think Tyrion wanted Casterly Rock before, I think he just wanted his approval and love from his father and he would've been okay with that. But Tywin's damned pride of his familial principles made him into a jackass, like this is just standard procedure for a Lannister. Typical dad behavior, but c'mon man. Give the dog the bone, and that's all they'll need.

So anyone whos not noble or a high born is.named snow? There has got to be a ton of jon snows running around. No one ever thinks about that. In england only the rich had a need for sir names. Everyone else lived in tight little villages. Hes the only jon snow in the whole north and beyond the wall

"You will not bring that whore to court" was a test. And it was a test that Tyrion failed. Tywin explained exactly why he hated Tyrion, and Tyrion ignored all of it. He ignored the drinking, ignored the whoring, ignored the fact that Tywin still blames him for Joanna's death, and just said to himself "Whelp. It's because I'm a dwarf." He did that because it was easy. It gave him an out. He can fix the whoring, can fix the drinking, can possibly even soothe the blame Tywin places on him, especially by living up to the Lannister name. But there's nothing that he can do about being a dwarf. So if he fixates on that reasoning, he doesn't have to change anything about himself and he can keep on hating his father, pretending that Tywin is incapable of love (because if he acknowledged his father's feelings about Joanna's death, it would humanize him). It's just so much easier.

It shows how similar they are though, because Tywin refused to see Tytos sleeping with common women as okay until Joanna died. Then Tywin slept with whores and presumably realized what it felt like to have been his dad. Tytos was faithful to Tywin’s mother until she died, but Tywin was still bitter over Tytos taking mistresses after she past

Tywin and Cersei only hate Tyrion because Joanna Lannister died giving birth to him (as if Tyrion had any control over that.) And, as such, constantly blame him for it as a way to deal with their grief.

I know Tywin didn't like Tyrion deep down cause he was a dwarf but publicly he always said it was because of the whores and drinking. If Tyrion cut out the whores and drinking maybe Tywin wouldn't been forced to respect him more.

It crazes me that Tywin would say shit like this to Tyrion yet when Joffrey was bullying him you can see the spite in his eyes plus Joffrey is a literal little shit who disrespects everyone even him but he called his son who saved Kings Landing a low cunning creature like how😂🤦🏾♂️

People seem to forget that Tywin never hated Tyrion personally. He hated the fact that Tyrion was everything that Jaime was not. Tywin only cared about the Lannister legacy, and to have a dwarf carry his lineage, he took offence to it. Just imagine Tyrions intellect in Jaimes body, the guy would be unstoppable.

Its interesting that Tywin's spite for Tyrion is never couched in him being a dwarf. It is on the edges: "waddle about" "creature", but the real issue he speaks clearly towards is the whoring and drinking. I don't know if its an excuse because he is repulsed by Tyrion's condition, seeing as he won't acknowledge Cersei and Jamie's perversity, but he might have responded differently if Tyrion was less self indulgent.

3:58 'since I cannot prove that you are not mine'. This makes me think Tywin desperately tried to convince people that Tyrion was a bastard of some sort when he was born. So heartbreaking how Tyrion is treated in the early few seasons.

Tywin looking away and wobbling his head when he describes thy way Tyrion walks sells his contempt and embarrassment for his son's condition. I suspect he's more ashamed of one son being a dwarf than of the other two kids sleeping together.

This is the best scene in the show IMO. So many amazing lines that show how their character dynamic was. Tywin’s disrespect for Tyrion is unconditional, regardless of how good or bad he proved to be. Although he proved to be the best fit for the continuation of his legacy, his refused to believe that, similarly to how he refused to believe Jamie’s and Cersei’s relationship, even though deep down he knew both to be true. Really a tragic showing how deep down hatred for some part of someone can impede your best judgement, even from the most intelligent people.

I like how Tyrion is trying to prove a point by sitting their silently in the beginning and initiating a friendly conversation basically showcasing how little his father was there for his children growing up. Only ever caring about pride on a daily basis and always busy with the realm.

All throughout their time together, I always wanted Tyrion to ask just _one question._ "Did you ever consider - even once - that perhaps all the energy you spend hating-me, might be better suited to be _used elsewhere?"_ That's the real tragedy; if Tywin wasn't so concerned with appearances, he'd realize that Tyrion was the most valuable asset among his children.
