Was hoping that NetApp also added the NFS file backup directly from the NetApp volumes.. and not through the host as all the other backup vendors is doing.

Why did you remove aggregates from the volume view? Why do you call aggregates "tiers" even though they're still "aggregates" from the CLI? Why did you remove the possibility to see which volumes are on which aggregate? Why did you remove the ability to choose on which aggregate to create a new volume? Why are you going backwards?

how does the ONTAP system manager launch when you double-click one of the discovered nodes from Windows Explorer? Do I need to install ONTAP software on my laptop to get the system manager to open?

The first thing you do is "return to classic version" and then refuse updates for as long as you can (from 9.8 onwards they removed the classic version)

how do you schedule this DR backup to run daily? In a genuine DR scenario you would not be able to run a manual backup and copy the files over to the DR site

Hell no, that's one of the pre-requisites. Ensure that no jobs are running If any aggregate, volume, NDMP (dump or restore), or Snapshot jobs (such as create, delete, move, modify, replicate, and mount jobs) are running or queued, allow the jobs to finish successfully or stop the queued entries. (a) Review the list of any running or queued aggregate, volume, or Snapshot jobs: job show (b) Delete any running or queued aggregate, volume, or Snapshot copy jobs: job delete -id job_id (c) Ensure that no aggregate, volume, or Snapshot jobs are running or queued: job show
