Hi Greg - great video :) question - if i have a perforation in my SPF roof with both the Elastomeric and the foam under a little damaged (less than one inch penetration in the foam) - with what can i patch the foam before recoating the elastomeric on top ??
@westroofingsystems
@westroofingsystems 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! For the perforation in your SPF roof, make sure the area is dry, then fill with silicone coating (or whichever elastomeric coating you have), then smooth out w/putty knife! -Greg

There is absolutely nothing wrong w asking for a down payment on a roofing project. And there is nothing wrong w asking to be paid in full when the job is finished. We are hired to install a roof for the customer, not to carry the customers debt for months. Giving the customer a week or two is acceptable payment terms. But I would never agree to waiting 2 months to be paid. Different states have different laws about filing a lien on a building for non payment. In my home state of Indiana the contractor only has 21 days from job completion to file a lien. If you try to file after 21 days it will be denied.

Hey Victor here. Funny and informative stuff here. I definitely like the name of the show and the host....With The Most. Maybe you can do a episode on scarfing with Ronnie. I know Ronnie and someone else "No Names Please" perfected the use of RAW's vision for his scarfing machine up in Midland Michigan at the Dow Corning Plant. Take care folks.

I lived in my house 35 years. It has very nice open beam ceilings over the living room and dining room and over my 22x24 foot bedroom upstairs. The heavy wood shake roof leaked so I had it torn off and the center of the house was sheeted with OSB. The open beam ceilings are 2x6 tongue in groove with tar paper and 3 leaf tar/fiberglass shingles on it. It started leaking after 15 years because the nails were backing out where the seams of the wood was and they did not hold. They should have sheeted those areas as well. For an entire year, I could smell tar from the roofing INSIDE the house. The house was freezing in the winter, hot in the summer for 20 years. The composition roof was far less insulation that the shakes were. I'm done chasing leaks. I had my roof of 3200 square feet sprayed with rigid urethane foam 4 days ago over the shingles. It was coated with the elastomer but needed the mid progress inspection to be done before applying granules. The foam partly duplicated the shingle pattern. They actually filled in the dished sagged area over my bedroom and now it looks much better from the street. It looks like a light snow fell on the roof. The results..... holy smokes, awesomely good......I have been tracking the ceiling temperatures with a laser thermometer so I know how it was in the last 2 years. It was 106 to 112 degrees after the sun went down inside my bedroom on the ceiling, 92 degrees 5 feet off he floor with the cooler running on an average hot day in August. In the winter, I was seeing 48 degrees 5 feet off the floor. The ceiling was often a few degrees less. The attic was the same as the outside temperature. . From across the street, you could see the frost burnt off over my living room and bedroom. Last February the furnace set at 67 degrees ran 56 minutes of every hour and my bedroom temperature at 5 feet up from the floor was 48 degrees. The attic was 116 in May when I strung the new video cable AFTER the sun went down. I have evaporative cooling and run it on low about 8-10 hours a day all Summer. The attic vent fan turns on at 105 degrees and runs from 11 in the morning to 7 at night most days. With the foam roof, the attic temperature was 76 degrees in full sun, 86 degrees outside today. The attic fan never comes on now. It ran every day since May before the new roof. With the windows closed, I'm seeing between 68 degrees and 74 degrees in my upstairs bedroom at all times. Fall fell last week and I was using the furnace for an hour each morning. Now with the insulated roof, there is no need for the furnace or the ceiling fan. The difference is astounding. I need to learn how to operate this house all over again. They are going to coat the roof with tan mineral granules this week. The entire job cost as much as they quoted to tear off the old roof and lay down GAF bitumen underlayment and 35 year shingles. It would still have a hot attic. This is California, earthquake prone. To raise the roof with 2x4's, vent it and sheet with 7/16'' OSB, install the better underlayment and add 35 year shingles, I was quoted $65,000 and $58,000. The roof would weigh 8500 lbs more. I am guessing the rigid foam and granules will add 600 lbs to the roof. Fine. Less to shake over my head. The cost was mid $20,000 for the foam and skylight changes. I hear that the coating sometimes blisters but I will gladly deal with that after the insulation made this place way more livable. I had a sprayed foam roof put on my apartment building in 1996 and when sold it in 2018, there were only a few spots needing repairs and we never re-coated it in 22 years. It brought Summer temps down by 20 degrees on the top floor apartments. This roof also meets Title 24 for energy efficiency. Who cares....the inside temperature is way more stable now. I can't wait to study the Winter temperature effects. Noise....its quieter now. Jet traffic climbing out of SFO used to come through my ceiling. Now it comes through the closed windows if I hear it at all.

7 months later when the sun was out and it hit 92 degrees in the shade, the metal flashing around the edges of the roof started popping up raising the foam layer. Over the gutters it rose about 3 inches in the middle of a 25 foot span and looks terrible and gets worse on hot days, never flattens out when the sun goes down. There is one place where the metal and foam raised 5 inches. The installer wants to cut out the bad sections and start over with new foam and coating. They blame the foam supplier as it happened on a few other roofs. Mine is the worst they ever saw and its not even Summer yet. The edge metal was installed with roofing nails, a stupid lazy idea. There is one area where screws were used and its staying put. This is terribly disappointing and looks like hell. These guys were in business or 30+ years but they sure did a piss poor job on my roof. The good.....I love the insulating properties and never run the AC even on hot days in May. The heater ran 1/3rd as much last winter.

Thank you for the informative video. I have a question for you if you don't mind? I currently have a foam roof that was not installed correctly and now pools. I am considering going with this system instead, but I wanted to know if I can go over the existing foam roof and if it would need to be scarfed first to resolve the pooling issue? Also, are you able to have say a patio set on top of it or create a roof top garden? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Good morning! You absolutely can install a Single-Ply Membrane roof system over your existing concrete rooftop. A layer of insulation board would need to be applied first for the membrane to attach to, but this is an easy process for us.
