@ThoughtlessTree some of the best shows I've watched that released seasons in 2024 are Presumed Innocent and Trying on Apple TV, Baby Reindeer and Monsters on Netflix, Only Murders in the Building and English Teacher on Disney Plus, The Curse, The Penguin and a UK classic, The Traitors! What are some of the best shows you've seen this year?

Thank you for the recommendations we will have to check out the ones we've not seen! We also love traitors! We watched the nightsleeper which is also a BBC show like Ludwig. Really interesting premise. We also love the cheesy shows on Netflix like physical 100. There was another Korean show called the devils plan on Netflix which we became obsessed with, would definitely recommend <3

Got to say, I recognized the footage in this video from having watched that walk the other day and thought there was something terribly glitchy in my KZbin subscriptions, somehow getting the video from one upload and the audio from another 😅 Absolutely loved Heretic myself, and I also had the experience of finding myself thinking about it a surprising amount later. The idea of a horror villain using the tactics of control utilized by religion is just such a great premise. Such a shame what weird reactions the film has gotten from Mormons!

Love your videos. I could listen to hundreds of hours of this. If I might offer one tiny suggestion to avoid long arguments in the future (not that it’s not fun to hear): maybe work together to develop a criteria for evaluating movies to make it easier to compare. Like a scale of 1-5 for writing, visuals, enjoyment, sexual energy and color grading or something. Food for thought.

So glad to see the love for Fantastic Mr. Fox and Shrek 2. Both such excellent movies...! ❤ And Joe, thank you for fighting so valiantly for The Boy and the Heron 😂 I'm still peeved about the fact that it lost to FRICKING SCOOBY DOO MONSTERS UNLEASHED, but alas! As to your question, I've never even heard of Attack the Block, so idk what that says. But you definitely had me intrigued! And Joe, I can just _feel_ your palpable frustration there at the end lol - and I'm 100% with you 😄 You made such a good case for Hot Fuzz, many great arguments, you definitely sold it. Should have won! Sorry, Kirstie... but you really didn't make a very good case for SotD haha 😄 Jokes aside, this was really fun. Take care!

I'd also like to add, as I wrote the comment before I had finished the video, that Fantastic Mr. Fox has at least 2 really quotable lines that just pop into my head surprisingly often. "You're supposed to be _my_ lab partner." "I am!" "No you're not. You're disloyal." (That last part; it's one of my favourites lol. The delivery sells it.). And the most obvious - "he's ... [hand motions] different." It's such a funny movies. And I don't entirely agree, I don't think it's that tied to the book. (....but yeah, RotK had to win... as much as I adore Mr. Fox)

The "supernatural" thing at the end of Love Lies Bleeding was definitely metaphorical, imo. Like a literal representation of the feelings, the love-fuelled euphoria, empowerment, strength, invincibility... It was strange for sure, but I think it kinda worked. I personally loved that movie. I'm surprised you didn't even mention the imo biggest and most defining aspect/theme: addiction and obsession. It was all about that. Steroids for the body builder, another person (love, attraction, whatever you want to call it) for Kristen Steward's character. I loved the portrayal of that particular brand of a toxic relationship dynamic (and how you root for them regardless, because their chemistry is just so incredible). And the movie was also just SO fun to watch...! Really funny as well. Very campy. I had such a blast. And I'm not even talking about the great cinematography, sound design, acting... Would definitely watch again.

Damn the Marathon cinema idea is golden, I want that so bad! I would properly live there lol Edit: And as for your questions. There are some amazing films I've seen this year. I also went to an international film festival for the first time in my life this summer! So I saw some great stuff there. Only counting movies I've seen for the first time this year, my top 10 would probably be: 10. *My Favourite Cake* (an old Iranian woman's quest to find love and companionship. The majority of the film depicts a single evening that her and her date spend together, mostly in real time... It's something of a dark-ish comedy, the ending is kinda wild and heavy, but otherwise it's such a lovely, sweet, funny, deeply moving film about loneliness and love that has no age limit, on the backdrop of the repressive political system in Iran) 9. *Pierce* (a Taiwanese film about brothers, familial bonds, the power and the incredible messiness of them, the idealized images we have of our loved ones and how far we are willing to go for them. Also about fencing, about guilt and innocence, trust, as well as coming of age... It's an incredibly made thriller that also manages to tackle some really powerful themes. Great cinematography and some really stand-out acting. I really don't have anything to criticize, it got a well-deserved standing ovation at the festival.) 8. *The Wild Robot* 7. *Inside Out 2* (genuinly couldn't decide on the order of those two) 6. *Crossing* (a Georgian-Turkish movie about a retired teacher who ventures to Instanbul in hopes of finding her long-lost transgender niece (whom the family disowned / kicked out because of her identity), accompanied by her young neighbour, who's basically just using it as an excuse to get away from his awful home. This movie was heavy and painful, deeply heart-breaking, but also full of love, at times even quite funny, and definitely very powerful. It portrayed the issue so well without ever feeling preachy. I only have very minor criticisms, it's a bit long and slow, but otherwise an incredible experience that I couldn't get out of my head for a long time. The ending hits you like a freight train.) 5. *The Other One* (this is a Czech documentary about the so called "glass children" - the siblings of special-needs kids who are therefore sort of neglected or overlooked by their family, however unintentionally, because their sibling needs so much care and attention that there isn't a whole lot of room left for them. It focuses on one particular girl and her family, it's beautifully shot, and so, so moving. Doesn't villanize anyone, just depicts the situation with all the hardships, beautiful moments, complexities and nuances. I have no criticism, it was wonderful.) 4. *May December* 3. *In Bruges* 2. *Perfect Days* 1. *Loveable* I would recommend all of those. But no. 1 in particular. It's a Norwegian film, and it absolutely blew me away. I saw it twice so far (at the festival and then again at a cinema in Prague) and it doesn't get any less powerful on a rewatch. It makes me cry so hard... It's essentially about the falling apart of a relationship... but don't expect a dramatic showdown like for example Marriage Story. Without giving away too much, this movie is a lot more subtle than that... and it goes deep. It's a very real, very personal journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, healing, accountability... I found it incredibly well made. It's perfect, in my eyes. And it has what is hands down the best therapy I've seen on film... Sorry for the massive comment... 😅 And thanks for the video! Definitely adding some of those films to my watchlist.

@efoxkitsune9493 17 күн бұрын
@ThoughtlessTree Oh I guess I should have specified that I haven't seen all of those in the cinema, a couple I only saw at home - specifically In Bruges and May December. But they were all movies I watched this year for the first time (btw I might have to add Anora to the list, saw it yesterday and it was excellent). In Bruges is really, really good! I certainly recommend it. And The Banshees of Inisherin along with it! Both amazing. I'm sure they're available on some streaming platforms (they're both on HBO Max in Czechia, not sure about the UK though). If you have a chance to see Loveable, do. And I think you might really like Perfect Days as well, it's a very slow movie with very little actual plot, but it's mesmerizing, subtle and powerfully moving. (Edit: Just realized I don't actually know if I'm replying to Joe or Kirstie 😅)

Oh god, disruptive people at the cinema piss me off so much. I'm not that used to it, it doesn't happen here all that much, I guess the movie-going etiquette is a bit different. I honestly don't think I've ever been to a screening where people would just be on their phones (why would you pay for a ticket if you want to be on your phone instead??), so that kind of blows my mind tbh (edit: I just realized that my favourite cinemas all have their screening rooms below street level, so there is no reception anyway lol, so maybe that helps). And being loud in any capacity, shouting, commenting etc. is just an absolute no-no. Lee sounds amazing, I've never even heard of it. Thanks for the tip!

Hey! I thought The Wild Robot was really beautiful. I thought that the themes of motherhood and nurture x nature in particular (I also really liked the "programming" metaphor for some of that) were tackled really well, I found it quite poignant. Very moving, powerful. I went in completely blind, a friend asked me last minute if I wanted to go with him, I didn't even know the movie existed until then, didn't know what it was about, I just did a quick check, saw the animation style and immediately knew I wanted to see it haha. So I had no expectations going in, which I think made it even more effective for me. And the animation was stunning to me, the soundtrack was great, amazing voice acting... And like you said, unexpectedly funny. Yeah I just thought it was really great. I'm actually kind of surprised at your nonchalant reactions, you didn't seem all that impressed or taken by it haha. Thanks for the video, take care.

Deadpool character is just overrated and imo honestly terrible. Borderlands is OK but yes plot is already done a lot. Besides regular action movies like bad boys, roadhouse among others I'm a sucker for horror supernatural movies and this year although not busy on the genre, I enjoyed "Abigail" and "die alone" the last has very heartfelt story amongst the genre doomsday soft gore plot. @@ThoughtlessTree Hey, I second this comment. It's basically a podcast already, if you think about it. The only disadvantage, imo, when it comes to platforms like Spotify, is that there is no comment section, so no room for discussion. I love talking about movies, so that's one of the main draws of this content for me - to be able to hear your thoughts and perhaps share my own, engage in a discussion.
