from oil sampling side. The 600ml of oil they hold vs the confidence that the oil will maintain its lubrication qualities and when does carbon contamination become an issue also affect the life span before failure. Stil echos the same point most likely every 5 minutes of run time they sampled and changed the oil.

I don't understand why they don't just take one of their street legal enduro models and put a less maintenance engine in it, even if the engine was 10 kilos heavier it would still be lighter than any other true dual sport

Been back to my piston suppliers (CRF250X) to moan about clearences and an annoying rattle on light load that i was convinced was piston slap ! He informed me that my machine was still a competition model despite being road legal and was fully in spec for that engine ! Ive put a "B" size piston on a the freshly plated nicasil barrel and will try again 😮
@JSmith1985810 сағат бұрын
Did you send the piston away with the barrel when it was replated?
@johnwalker1949 сағат бұрын
@JSmith19858 No, and this is where it gets complicated ! The barrel was an Ebay purchase, freshly plated and I then bought a Mitaka piston to suit when I rebuilt my Enduro bike ! We also run a CRF250R on the track for my son and we have a Cosworth 14.25 : 1 high comp piston in that so it was originally bought as a spare for when that went bang 🤣
@JSmith198588 сағат бұрын
@@johnwalker194 It isn't complicated, just measure the bore with a bore gauge or telescopic gauge, or put the piston in and find the clearance with shim material. If you just throw a random piston in based on guesswork then you're going to grenade something

I guess it goes for any form of engineering really. I come from the software development world and we have the same. We have a laundry list of problems we are fully aware of, we know when and how they happen, how severe they are and how many manhours is needed to fix them. With that all on the table along with the release schedule decisions are made which issues will be fixed and which will end up in the released software.

I love the blackboard videos 🤩 I always thought the shorter service intervals were due to increased wear and not a lack of testing. Makes me feel much more confident about my uncle's 5000km oil interval on his Honda XR650R. Thanks!
@court237914 сағат бұрын
He is acting like heat, pressure, contamination, and volume don't matter. That bike has much lower compression. That probably reduces blowby and oil contamination. It holds more oil than a race bike so is more forgiving of how long it can wait to be changed. Is that one that has an oil cooler? Lower oil temps last longer. Lower compression, lower heat. There may be a testing aspect of this, but they aren't making twenty units. They are making tens of thousands. They can justify testing them fully
@thedirtyworkshop11 сағат бұрын
Hey court2379, are you an engineer, and have you worked in testing in engineering? I know the answer is no. Watch jakes video, and he compares these engines to other road bikes. Then tell us all why a bike that's not that dissimilar has schedules 10 times shorter or more. Any counters to these arguments would be great. What do you do for a living? Waitress by any chance?
@court23798 сағат бұрын
@@thedirtyworkshop I am not saying that what he is describing doesn't happen. But the also make tens of thousands of these engines. They can afford to take the time to actually test them. They also make lots of other similar engines, so should have good enough data to post more accurate service intervals. I have a hard time believing they are putting such short intervals simply because they are too lazy to test. Also physics. These race engines are running hotter, at far higher rpm, with less oil, higher forces and pressures. They are going to have shorter intervals. Probably not what they have set the intervals at, but definitely shorter. Do try to tell me they are the same. They aren't.
@thedirtyworkshop7 сағат бұрын
@court2379 not higher rpm, oiling is the same... stop making stuff up.
