like many other neophyte graduate students, my first introduction to dr bertsekas' work was related to convex optimisation. from there, his name came up again when one of my mentors mentioned a whitepaper focused on optimal decision-making in football (dspace.mit.edu/bitstream/handle/1721.1/3437/p-2350-36683080.pdf?sequence=1). this paper was both challenging and rewarding; it also accentuates dr bertsekas' work: a career spanning decades with each publication contributing to a big picture, or career, that many "accomplished" physicists 1 century prior would envy. here's to you dr bertsekas: an inspiration without trying to be one. sticking to the "details", adding the small pieces, one proof/bound at a time. ensuring the foundation for our path to the stars is both safe and secure! thank you!
