Dad writing.... He is an MMA kid that just loves wrestling. He loves it but uses to better his mma. Georgia's wrestling season ends in Febuary. Then it will be back to striking and grappling (bjj). Over the summer expect alot more boxing and Muai Thai / Kickboxing videos as this is where he wants to work more on. I'm sure more mma and probably a few jiu jitsu videos mixed in as well. Disclaimer: Jiu Jitsu has a very large void in competition the higher in experience a kid goes. Mixed that with Kaleb being on the smaller end of his age chart and its hard to find viable tournaments. It's sucks to fork out over $100 to drive 3plus hours for maybe 1 or 2 competitors.

That kid is from Arkansas and is currently the 8th ranked kid in AGF out of 23,671 athletes. Kaleb was also 73 pounds fighting 85 and under. (vs 75 and under) This match put Kaleb out of his Gi brackets. He tweaked his wrist and couldn't squeeze. He is better now but still sore.
@Athletophy Жыл бұрын
@@2717watt 8th out of over 20k sounds ultra impressive! What rank is Kaleb? Sorry about the wrist. How did he hurt it? Perhaps he would have won that match otherwise
@2717watt Жыл бұрын
@ChrisPT The kid legit fought off Kalebs Anaconda choke attempt which is where Kaleb stressed his wrist. Kaleb is 87th ranked in AGF. Partly due to lack of matches and partly due to always fighting up in weight or age which has given him a few losses.
@Athletophy Жыл бұрын
@@2717watt Thanks for explaining 👍 Unlucky I guess. 87th still sounds very impressive though. I assume strength and conditioning becomes more important as weights get higher.

@@2717watt Sounds like a great life if you love grappling. Also I suppose the only way to get good competition in some cases. I imagine for top level kids that size, they'd beat most beginners easily for example up to 100 pounds
@2717watt Жыл бұрын
@ChrisPT Yes. My son is 75 pounds and 11 years old. Unless puberty has set in deep, he can handle around a 3 year 35 pound handicap for new kids. The older they are the faster they catch on and eventually stalemate my son. It takes a while before they can submit him. This is pretty standard for all kids and gyms.
@Athletophy Жыл бұрын
@@2717watt Useful to know thanks, and fits with my admittedly more limited experience - haven't trained with an expert kid under 13. Although I've been working with a 7 year old who is already 70 pounds, as tall as a 10/11 year old, and is a gymnast. His grip strength on a dynamometer is 45 pounds, almost as much as a 13 year old footballer I also train (50 pounds). He made my neck hurt for 3 days just by holding seatbelt position extra tight. So I can see how some large age/size difference upsets are possible.

Thanks for pointing me to this video. Excellent win against an opponent with some high level tricks (hindulotine against another opponent as you mentioned). Shame he couldn't finish the anaconda. Maybe the hair got in the way? Lol. Or maybe some extra strength and conditioning could help at this highest level. Either way, impressive match with great movement and positioning throughout.

Towards the end of the match the score was 13 to 12. Not feeling Kaleb could get a pin in time his coach told him to cut loose which gave the other kid a point which made it 14 to 12. Kaleb tried a shot but was too exhausted and the other kid just rode the period out. He has been frustrated in practice and slapped a few moves on people.
