Looked gnarly. Pretty smooth paddling though. I would probably have put the pogies in the back, haha!

I'm used to having my pogies on the paddle even when not using them. Whenever the water is cold, I'm more inclined to take them with me. There are times when my hands are usually fine throughout the day but occasionally get cold to where I use them briefly to warm up my hands.

Reminds me of the creeks I used to do early in the season to knock off the rust. A bunch of class II rapids with maybe one class III . . . Find a nice wave or little hole, park your boat (C1 for me), put the paddle on the deck, watch the water flow by, and soak in nature. It doesn't get any better than that.

yo dawg this is some fuckshit to be running solo. Kayaking isn't fun enough to justify dying for it. Just remember if you die out there someone has to make the call to your parents, friends, etc.. and tell them that they never get to see their loved one again. I know the satisfaction that comes with pushing yourself and running new whitewater but you've gotta know that there is no satisfaction worth uselessly dying. Keep pushing yourself but man please be safe.

Yeaaaaa. Normally I don’t solo. Especially with the higher level of risk and everything. I really shouldn’t at all. On another note hit me up when you do something in the SE. Would love to boat with you. Really itching to get on HP and Thompson again if rain would cooperate. Also are you going to Gauley Fest or Russell or anything?

@@RogueDragonNate I'll be at Gauley Fest as well! Would be awesome to catch a lap with you if we can work anything out during the absolute chaos of the fest... lmfao, and if that doesn't end up working out, was planning on going up to one of the Russell Fork release weekends this year with Wade Harrison to get my PFD, so could maybe catch you then as well if the fest is insane as usual, and that weekend doesn't work out. Either way, have a good night, and talk to you soon hopefully!

@@tankmaster1018 - Stop by the Dagger Booth while at the Fest. I’ll be hanging out over there some of the time. I think things might be too chaotic to make proper paddle plans. Let’s definitely try to link up for RF though. I would potentially be down to join you and Wade for your RF PFD. Reach out to me on Facebook or something. I believe we might already be friends or I think I might’ve sent you a friend request awhile back if I remember right. It’s Nathan Anderson btw.

I used to live outside of DC for a couple years. I’ve driven passed Rock Creek hundreds of times. It’s usually about knee deep all the way down, but I aways wondered what it would like with a lot of water. Cool little short run. And it’s the one spot in DC that makes you forget you’re actually in the city.

I dont Kayak, but ive watched hundreds of decends and pinned kayakers on KZbin. At 1:40 when you are scouting that section there is a SO MANY bad spots you can get pinned in. If I did Kayak I wouldn't do that section without people ready on the sides with ropes. Maybe if you are very advanced at least with a group of 4 or 5. One person wont have the strength to get you out most likely.....I look back on my life pretty often, at 50 years old I don't have a clue how I made it through life this long. Its all in Gods hands but I don't invite death anymore. Be smart out there.

Yeaaaa, and especially with running the big one. Normally I don’t paddle solo but I ended up doing this solo as it was dropping out fast and I couldn’t get anyone to rally. By the time I got over there, it was later in the afternoon/evening. Regarding running Difficult, I looked at everything from the trail before even putting on. Then I got out before the big one to give it a good scout before firing it up. I do want to get back on it at some point and with an actual crew. It’s a neat run.

@@macfawlty - I’ve been boating since 2020 and great falls was a goal of mine since very early on. I finally first started running the falls last year. Ran the VA side and got comfortable to the point of racing that side last year. Then over the winter and into this year I checked off a bunch of stouts like the Thompson, Horsepasture. 200% gorilla on the Green Narrows, High water Gragg Prong, and Little White Salmon. By the time I got back up to Great Falls this year, I felt more than ready for the MD side and sure enough.
