Holes now that's a thing go down Brentwood High Street empty shops the road looks like it's been carpet-bombed and it's full of broken promises and red tape to cover three generations. Once it was a powerhouse and fun.

Well done. I wish that the natural habitat lobbyists who pursue their own narrow agenda at immense public expense were similarly confronted with the facts. Given free reign those minority pressure groups can make national infrastructure improvements virtually unaffordable -- see HS2.

The planning application for this is 359,000 pages long, and has cost £300m so far. That's more than it cost Norway to plan and *build* the world's longest road tunnel (Lærdal). Britain's planning system is a sick joke.

After 15 years in planning and bureaucracy, whether it gets built or not, people still get paid, and that red tape and stalling see a generation die. The fifteen years to start a project in the UK is a horrendous crime. Cut the red tape and lining of the pockets and get on with it. Too many planning laws and councillors were involved in costing money to the country just to arrive at more broken promises; the Romans would've built it quicker. I have seen multiple family and friends pass away, saying it wouldn't happen in their lifetime.

Thoroughly worthwhile initiative in public relations to deal with the wowsers who seem determined to put negativity first with most infrastructure improvements. Any chance of shipping the piles to the site by SHIP.? Perhaps by RAIL. HS2 might have taken the trouble to inform in the same way. HS2 was gold plating at its worst. French approach to H S projects and costings seems to be very different.The UK will always have trouble with major projects if your sort of cars is not given to inform tax payers and users.

Was quite enjoying the history of the Dartford Crossing up until the propaganda piece about how the proposed (not wanted!) Lower Thames crossing is meant to relieve the traffic in Dartford! Maybe deal with the issues at Dartford rather than diverting the issues to another bottleneck down at Gravesend, how on earth do you expect all the traffic to divert off the M25 and around the multiple sets of traffic lights at the Darenth interchange to get onto the A2 down to this proposed new crossing?! Let alone reducing the amount of lanes on the A2 Londonbound and coastbound to feed into this disastrous idea. Option A14 is the only real option to resolve all the issues at Dartford, this would finally make the M25 a complete orbital motorway tunnelling underneath the existing tunnels and joining up both sides of the Kent and Essex sections of the M25. The current crossing and the A282 would only be used for local traffic. But of course the Highways Agency aren’t really interested in fixing the root of the problems, the proposed new crossing involves hundreds of acres of land grab and now I believe there’s even talk of making the potential new crossing a toll road as well just to add insult to injury!

I’m old enough to remember driving through it as a single tunnel. Then watched the second tunnel being built and finally the bridge. Reality is they never looked far enough ahead each time to understand the true numbers that would use it. As for the queues. If you know your way around the lanes you can drop straight onto the tunnel on the South side without putting up with the regular standstill from Junction 3 or 4 but don’t tell everyone😂

Fantastic project.But freight traffic coming from Dover and Eurotunnel using the crossing will be held up coming of the M20 at junction 6 Blue Bell Hill and getting on the M2 at the top of Blue Bell Hill,or otherwise the M2 will have to run all the way unhindered to Dover.

Why is the bridge so high?, both banks are just above sea level but the bridge is 213ft {65m} high and I haven`t seen any 200ft tall ships. It`s crazy, many people will not use it because of it`s height.
@gaillaffer7579
@gaillaffer7579 4 ай бұрын
Height is because of PLA ports upstream. It was built before London Gateway terminal existed (at the former Coryton oil refinery.) The bridge is low enough however to stop the sail rigged tall ships coming in. I went to see them dock at St Catherine’s dock for the last time in about April 91. It used to be an annual event.

Existing Dartford crossing (in particular North Bound through the tunnels) is a an absolute catastrophe, it's midday on a Friday in May and looking at google maps the Northbound traffic is queuing from J3 at Swanley, around 6 miles. This is common most days of the week, and when it really snarls up the whole surrounding areas of Bexley and Gravesend grind to a halt. They need to fix the immediate problems first before starting on a new tunnel that will probably never get built or finished in my lifetime & I'm 55 !! The non toll booth idea is a massive failure !!

I don’t think you’ve done your research or your not telling the truth. Either way this will not ease anything the Silvertown tunnel is a prime example the road network needs improvement first as with the Silvertown tunnel your moving the problem at a massive expense to the taxpayers then charging everyone to use it. The Dartford crossing was supposed to be free once paid for Never happened while it takes around 65 million a year in revenue Is this tunnel just so you can build more and more houses in north Kent ?

Perfect vision with hindsight as with a lot of public infrastructure projects like this you really need to double or quadruple the capacity then have foresight to double that again Dartford crossings are woefully inadequate for modern circumstances The lower Thames crossing will help if it ever gets completed

Correction. The Dartford Tunnel and the QE2 bridge are NOT part of the M25. They don't meet motorway standards and are actually the A282. So the M25 does not orbit London.

Very good video. It does fail to mention the removal of the old tollbooths for the far superior and quicker system they have now.... As if!!! Could some please explain how its gotten far worse than when we had to stop at a toll booth? South side traffic is so much worse than before. I cant understand how with all this computer modelling that they use to design these that they got it so wrong. Those in charge should be prosecuted for the colossal waste of time, energy and money that was expended, simply not good enough in the 21st century!!!
