Wait? Where does it say Jesus "earned" the title "The Son?" This scripture is Christ telling us the He is literally the only begotten son of God, the Father. Any other way to read it is a misinterpretation of His own words. I'm not saying there aren't parables, elucidations, and exegnesis', but this verse is extremely straightforward.
