Yea, cool, dont use dish soap. The degreasers and/or detergents in it will absolutely damage any plants that have particularly sensitive roots. Stronger plants will probably be fine, but we dont use dish soap to wash our hands for a reason. Chemical burns are a *little* rough.

is that... okay??? Wont the soap affect its root somehow? Like bacteria not forming on them?

It was suggested to use Castille or actual Soap made for plants. My pepper seems happy in his new hydroponic setup. 📢📢SUBSCRIBE TO THE LITTLE GARDEN NEWSLETTER: littlegardenontheprairies.substack.com/subscribe

Thank you so much! I loved your simple, straightforward explanation. I was afraid to try hydroponics because of all the overly complicated information out there. Your tutorial was just like a friend telling you what they do that works for them. You gave me the confidence to try something I nearly gave up on before even starting!

I got one today but now after watching videos now it’s scary. Do I even put water from the tap into the unit or do I use distilled bottle water
@LittleGardenSK2 күн бұрын
I use tap water all the time and just give my containers a good cleaning after each use. Can get expensive using distilled water !

Oh my goodness! 1) For the health of the plant, use Plant Soap, or at least Castile Soap. 2) For mature roots to be threaded into the cup, simply snip the round piece out of the cup (about the size of a quarter), or snip little pieces out to allow lots of roots through. 3) Fill your container with the Hydroponics solution BEFORE putting your plant into the cup. Soo, place the empty cup into your lid, then fill the container until you see the water level is at the bottom of the cup (you'll see it easily via the hole you cut in the bottom of your cup). Then thread your roots & plant into the cup. (No guessing how much water solution to pour.) 4) Light cannot get through the dark red or green coffee containers. I used over 2 dozen last year my Hydroponics garden, using the same method. No negative effects. 5) The Kratky method isn't for long term. So you need to change out the solution. Mark your date down that you transferred into the Hydroponics to help remind you to change the solution, (your plants will thank you!!) 6) Label your containers. 7) Make a tiny hole on the lid (I used a hot nail via a candle flame), just big enough for a screweror thin dowel rod. This is sooo helpful to measure your water level. Place a piece of painters tape or masking tape over the hole to keep the light out after you measure your water. I also used tall glass Lipton Instant Ice tea jars I painted dark. And for taller peppers, collard greens & cherry tomatoes i used the 2 gal plastic buckets. For my lettuces, spinach & strawberries (runners), I used painted quart size Mason jars & other jars about the same size.

I didn't read the packet and bought my pink pampas the first of May. Due to a change of landscaping plans I didn't need it until September, which is good because it took all summer to get to the size that you'd find in a garden centre. They were very slow to get started but really took off at one point. I also ignored the zone, so I'm not sure it will survive here in the ground.

I gave up on Pampas! There are many other grasses more suitable to our cold climate that are very pretty. 📢📢SUBSCRIBE TO MY LITTLE GARDEN NEWSLETTER!! littlegardenontheprairies.substack.com/subscribe

My neighbors have plum trees that sucker so badly into my yard! Suckers are the worst 😢. I have a pretty cheap cordless string trimmer from home depot, the Ryobi brand -- it works ok but I've had to get a replacement battery for it already. Maybe I should check this one out! My experience with woodchips is that it lasts about a year and then the woodchips need replenishment.
@LittleGardenSKАй бұрын
We also own a corded greenworks trimmer with dual strings. It seems to do the trick on bigger tree suckers and long grass. It's a bit heavier though - so love my lightweight cordless for cleaning up around my garden and flower pots

I have cardboarded a good portion of my garden over the past few years and it works good for a couple years. I hope to give everything a good mulching again this fall and hopefully start off the next season weed free. The quack grass in my yard was out of control with the wet spring we had this year.

Do I need to repot each one in its own new larger pot, or can some share the same pot since it will be a lot bigger? I don’t have room for a lot of bigger pots but didn’t realize I would have so many seedlings growing. (I feel sad about eliminating too.)😕
@LittleGardenSKАй бұрын
I feel your pain and hate having to eliminate any of these beautiful little seedlings! I will repot into other containers if I have room and then gift them to friends when they are bigger. I don't recommend keeping 2 plants together in a pot as you want individual healthy plants when its time to plant them in your garden. Add those extra seedlings to your compost and they will become wonderful food for your plants!❤️

Unfortunately the rigid plastic frame supporting the upper and lower "pads" - breaks up. This is a fundamentally important component and it is a shame that it simply is not durable enough! The frame itself breaks, and the points where the screws secure it to the frame, are also inadequate. "Spoiling the ship for a ha`poth of tar". Could be a good product, but unfortunately it is fundamentally flawed! I would not buy another in it`s current form.

I think you get what you pay for on this product and can't expect it to last for many years.
