Experienced this ride at the base of the CN tower when I was a kid. A totally fun experience.

WOW, this one brings back memories also. I worked at McFadden Systems for a long time and programmed the motion ques for the motion base for this Showscan ride. I was contracted to them from McFadden Systems for a while in order to do the programming. The amazing thing about the old showscan videos (not sure about the newer stuff) is they projected the same image onto the screen from 2 projectors which is why their images are so bright and clear. I didn't have anything to do with that aspect of the rides but am sure it was a pain to get the images aligned properly. The ShowScan "Devils Mine Ride" is the best ride film, in my opinion, it has a great look, is bright and the sounds are outstanding also. Fun stuff back in the mid 90's or so.

The ' Devils Mine Ride ' is awesome! I rode one on a ice planet. Can't find it anywhere.

I did this while I was in LA in '99 when I was a kid. How's that for a sense of nostalgia?

Interesting but the maximum resolution here is 480 which is a bummer.

Ned, is the footage for Alien Encounter available anywhere? It's hard to find, given that Disney used the same name for an attraction a few years later.

+Matt Goode Hi Matt. To the best of my knowledge, there are only old VHS transfers floating around, which is the source for this post. As you know, Showscan went under years ago. I doubt there's been any aftermarket for their content. Certainly not enough to warrant a decent digital transfer. Not even sure who own the rights to all that stuff now.

This was a Showscan/Industrial Light and Magic collaboration, and was first created on 70mm film, to be projected at 60 frames-per-second, in theme-park rides with hydraulically activated seats moving in sync with the action!

Showscan also did “Devil’s Mine Ride.” My favorite video ride I grew up with! 😎 Never seen another Showscan ride before though
