Trudeau caused a recession in the West with their National Energy disaster. People lost their homes. Shows how out of touch Eastern Liberals and the CBC have always been with what happens in the rest of the country.

Mulroney (and his ministers) caused a depression that hit the maritimes with there mismanagement of the fisheries ministry. People have been moving away ever since. Do not pretend like just the liberals are out of touch, it’s the conservatives too. The point of Petro-Canada and the National energy program was to keep the price of oil stable and predictable for consumers and businesses and not just in one province but the whole nation. Do you even know why the Government did it, there were two great oil crisis in the 70s where prices were higher than they’d ever been. Maybe if we still have the National Energy Program (or a better alternative) prices would be stabler.

in 1990, I was flying from Toronto to Vancouver and seated on my plane were PET and his 3 sons (he was in First class, they sat behind me in coach..lol) After we landed, I spotted him at baggage waiting for his skis & such, and gathered the nerve to ask for his autograph. He was alone, with no security at all--it was the most "Canadian" moment of my life.He was soft spoken, surprisingly short & very generous with his time. PET was a titan among "pipsqueaks", far from perfect, but a calibre of leader we have not , and may never, see again. I cried unabashedly when he passed.
