Hi Jack :) Had something I wanted to say, and a couple of questions to ask as well. Was just wanting to say thank you for your videos. As someone who recently developed severe tinnitus after having it mild for so long, your videos have helped me try to come to terms with this curse of an ailment. In terms of the questions: 1. I was wondering what if you had any thoughts on the Susan Shore/Auricle device that's hopefully going to be FDA cleared in the next year or so? Out of all the treatments being researched, this seems the closest in terms of potentially working and being available the soonest. Just wondering what you're thoughts were! 2. I've stopped using my over the ear headphones since my severe tinnitus started. Would I be able to use these safely at a low volume if I decided to use them again? For reference, my Tinnitus was caused by Microsuction appointment, not by any loud music Again, thanks for your videos and help with this ailment, as a fellow musician and music lover, I hope we both have someday ringing free and enjoy music to its fullest

Hello. Thank you I’m glad my videos have been of use. 1. I think we have to wait until the device is made available. 2. Headphones are tricky. I use headphones to record vocals and sometimes acoustic guitar. But I prefer to not use them when I don’t have to say when recording midi or mixing. I have found that limiting my use of headphones makes it easier for me . When I do use headphones I keep volume very low and don’t personally feel anything after using them. But again, I use them as sparingly as possible and at very very low volumes. Hope that helps

Thank you for responding :) yeah probably best not to think about that device until its actually available to use, not much good giving it thought until so Will try experimenting with very low volume usage with headphones in the near future. Thanks for your feedback :) Wishing you well man, cheers!

Very hard to put a number on the severity. Although, there are a few organisations out there that claim to be working on technology that can objectively measure tinnitus.

This has been my experience over the last 2 years. Constantly up and down. Rinse and repeat. What really gets me is that each spike or flare up is different. Like new sounds get added. Im trying to not react but its automatic! I cant help but go into negative thinking that I'll never feel well again. Jack is right though, good periods do come again. Just keep reminding yourself of that. Its awful but the bad period will end eventually. Its hard to believe that in the moment. Im in a bad period right now and the noise is through the roof!

Thank you for sharing Jack, good vid. It's true, i isolated myself so much after 10 years ago i was diagnosed with hearing loss because of otosclerosis. When my tinnitus spiked 2 years ago to extreme severity, man, that was crazy, specially because i was pretty isolated in my hearing loss. It definitelly helps to have friends and a social healthy life.

Jack, how do you actually convince people they can get better with tinnitus? I feel like in the community when I try and be positive it goes like this Me: You can 100% get to a better place with tinnitus Sufferer: Not if it is severe, how bad is yours? Me: Mine is severe it just takes work and time Sufferer: If it was severe you wouldn't say that. I feel like some people are both the torturer and the tortured in their own tale. How can i better help people understand they can recover from tinnitus and tinnitus distress?
@thetinnituschannel
@thetinnituschannel Ай бұрын
Hi Ben. Very interesting question. First off let me say it’s very noble of you wanting to help others . It shows great kindness. 💯 Here is my answer. The best way you can help people is instead of trying to convince them of something, show them an alternative way of thinking by using yourself as example . You are a person with severe tinnitus that has found ways to cope and live well. So show people that, either in conversation or videos etc. It’s a fantastic message to send out to the world. But who listens or doesn’t listen to your message, is not within your control.

Does using sound therapy through hearing aids help?
@thetinnituschannel
@thetinnituschannel Ай бұрын
Hello. I have done that in the past and it helped when using them. But I didn’t do it very often. I know some people do this so it’s something to consider. However whenever I have had sound therapy on, I always kept it below the volume of my tinnitus which I think is important so as not to further aggravate my ears .

Sound therapy in many cases is dangerous, because it can aggravate tinnitus objective volume. For me, the best way is to never mask it after 6 months after the onset of the first severe spike. Acception is key for me. I was extremely severe, now i'm just severe/ moderate. I still hear tinnitus over shower and over heavy traffic.

Hi Jack, the fact that your tinnitus has increased, paradoxically is a good sign: you have hydrops of the inner ear. It can be cured. On Google search for Dr. Andrea La Torre, he is an Italian specialist (also speaks English), who after a video consultation gives you a very effective therapy. I recommend him to all those who read and who suffer from this problem. Even to those who have had uninterrupted and fixed tinnitus for years. This can also be caused by hydrops. God luck!

Good video Jack, ty for sharing. I have 3 or 4 tones in my left ear and 1 or 2 on my right. For measure tinnitus, i do some questions, like do you hear it over shower? Over heavy traffic with your car windows closed? I don't think there is a way of measure objective tinnitus loudness... And to be honest, there is no point in measure and monitor tinnitus subjective volume, like a friend of mine says, don't focus on it, the more you focus, the louder it seems. Take care and keep strong

That’s a tough question and one that a specialist would have to answer. I have spoken to leading audiologists and they tell me that a good pair of fitted ear plugs do their job well. So take that as you will. But this is a good question and I might have to do some research on it and maybe make a video . 👍

Thanks Jack. Does 2K = 2000Hz? My tinnitus note/sound/band is around 5400Hz but the volume varies from manageable to weapons grade 🫨. I have yet to identify all of the sounds that start the spikes, but squealing brakes, loud screams and sirens certainly don’t help. Playing guitar is probably one of the culprits as well, but I can’t stop 🙄. Also, I do wish they would do as you once suggested and give some sort of warning on the television about imminent sudden volume spikes. Thanks again for the videos, sharing your experiences and tips helps me no end 🙂

Hi. Yes 2000 is where I often get aggravated. And yes I really think it would be an idea to have a warning with sounds . It sounds like a crazy idea, but if you think about it they have warnings for flash photography on the news etc. So why not sounds?

I’m always curious on how loud someone else’s tinnitus is but I dont ask because I learned how subjective it is. I’ve always had an aversion to weird sounds so I know I’m bothered more than my husband who says it’s just a sound (he has a high pitch one but it never bothers him). So I completely understand your reluctance to talk about how loud yours is and your reasons make sense. I am grateful you share so much with the community! 😊
