Emily, played by Natalia Livingston, performed convincingly based on the script provided by the head writer. This situation is reminiscent and similar to Nikolas, portrayed by Tyler Christopher (RIP), with the Courtney storyline. What strikes me as particularly intriguing is the complexity of Nikolas's emotions. His character's feelings for Courtney seem almost conflicting, especially given the depth of his historic love for Emily. I found it puzzling to think about how Nikolas could forge a bond with Courtney while his heart remained tethered to Emily, his enduring love for her never genuinely fading. Also, the same scenes and scripts would have happened if the OG Emily, Amber Tamblyn, was still on GH. Therefore, I love and understand the actors/actresses but have yet to understand the writers.

@@CamilaYRicardo7 Not necessarily, especially if we consider that the chemistry between Amber & Tyler might not have been the same as what he had with Natalia. Amber’s Emily was rebellious, impulsive, and her emotions came through raw and genuine; she was a better match for Zander, therefore I think with her in the role, Zem would’ve had a better chance of being endgame. Natalia’s Emily was more grown-up and polished, but IMO she lacked everything that made OG Emily unique. I understand people go through changes as they reach adulthood, but this was like a total personality transplant, at least from my POV (and quite honestly, at times Natalia was too cheesy, sorry). I’m glad Amber went on to bigger projects, she deserved it, but I wish she’d stayed on just a little longer; I mean, if the writers were going to get rid of Emily anyway, she and Zander could’ve left town together to start a new life in Canada or Mexico. Instead, both (Em and Zander) got tragic, unnecessary endings.

@@musingmina3257My response to my previous comment was that Emily (NL) played the role as it was given to her and acted on the script that HW wanted her to act on, as HW sometimes contradicted the character of what they were to what they are as the example I give relating to Nikolas and his relationship to Courtney. NL did what AT would have done if AT had played Emily from 2003 to 2007, but of course, AT was on other and bigger projects; therefore, she probably and maybe wouldn't leave them to reprise Emily. From my perspective, NL did an excellent job, eventually winning an Emmy for her role. The chemistry between NL and Tyler was relevant to their characters and felt genuine, likely due to their real-life relationship, which translated well on screen. However, I was saddened when GH killed her character, only to later bring her back in a ghost form and then introduce her twin sister, Rebecca Shaw. Nevertheless, both AT and NL did an excellent job of playing Emily in their own unique ways.

@@CamilaYRicardo7 And my take continues to be that the script could’ve gone differently with Amber in the role because her chemistry with Tyler might not have been quite the same. She had an edge and willful nature to her that I feel would’ve worked better with Zander. New Em was all baby voice, little giggles and… I don’t know, but from her first episode she felt fake to me. I don’t remember Rebecca all that well, but I think I liked her better than Em 2.0 despite being a con.😆 In fact, I think I would’ve appreciated Natalia more if they had brought her in as an entirely new character to begin with; whatever chemistry she had with Tyler would’ve still worked and their characters could’ve still had their supposedly fairytale romance. I understand Nem had/have their very loyal fanbase, but I just wasn’t as impressed by what NL brought to the role as Emily. As I previously indicated, it just felt like a whole other character to me. For that reason I was surprised that Em was eventually killed off, but I was not heartbroken to see her go.

@@musingmina3257 You mentioned in your POV that the script could have taken a different direction with Amber. However, the reality is that it did not. TPTB had a different approach. From my perspective, NL delivered a remarkable performance, even though I disagreed with certain scripts and scenes. NL truly poured her heart and soul into the role she was given, making the most of the opportunities presented to her and maximizing the material available. Ultimately, she won an Emmy for her performance. We can respectfully agree to disagree on our differing perspectives.
