What an archaic production facility. Would have expected all the fabrics to have been CNC cut. All core to have been CNC cut. Resin to have been mixed to demand through dispensers. Bonding adhesive to have been dispenser mixed on demand. Drilling jigs for all holes. The amount of rework to the hull bottom surprising, and reflects poor quality of tooling. Just overall very poor and not production friendly.

As a Laser owner, I would say this looks very desirable. I don't really like the present improvement philosophy, which is, "improve the boat, but don't improve it's performance". Doublespeak really. Who is comparative in an old style Laser. So I love the new sail and rig and the probable serious improvement in performance. Brings the Laser into the 21st Century.

I wonder why the class rules don't include a heavy bulb at the bottom of the centerboard, so that the sailor doesn't have to hang so far overboard to keep the boat from capsizing? Or is that all part of the fun? :-)

Is the Laser made by laminating chopped strand mat only or also some layers of woven roving or biaxial glass reinforcements ?
@fabioprb35384 жыл бұрын
.... Little bit more power?? What this guy is talkin'about? He seems to have no idea. It has probably 25 to 30% extra power increasing as much as wind increases, comparing to radial or standard traditionals. Furthermore with a carbon rig instead aluminum, laminate square top main instead of triangular dacron, and fully battened main with all that draft? That is not "just a bit" mate!!! This is a completely different approach. Better to say "just a little lot more power". The problem with laser dinghy folks is that they barely learn and understand very few about different sails and sail trimming while they should know more. Sorry about that.

@AnttiBrax3 жыл бұрын
With the Finn class leaving the Olympics without a heavyweight dinghy class and Laser already being in there, what do you think a Laser with 30% more powerful rig will do? Yes, they're doing the exact right thing.
@savetheclimate22923 жыл бұрын
The RS Aero is a class way too small why I believe it is a mistake to even try to compete with that. Regarding the Olympics any other single handed class will have its difficulties to get into the Olympics if it is not a modern design. An enhanced Laser like this ARC1/ARC2 does not make a big difference. And get real. The Finn is easy to sail in 20+ knots of wind, for the standard laser 20+ knots are a challenge. This ARC1 in 20+ knots of wind will be a desaster.
@markbrophy54543 жыл бұрын
The RS Aero is half the weight of a Laser, they're very different.
@savetheclimate22924 жыл бұрын
Next step is a new and a bit heavier centerboard and a slighly bigger hull. I guess then the change into the Finn class will be much easier.
