This is just karate but renamed to "Arnis Eskrima" or as its empty hands component. Arnis and Eskrima are weapons-only martial arts, there was no "empty hands component" until Anglo-American boxing or jujutsu was imported to the country in the 1900s. For a long time I wondered why it's really hard to find the "traditional mano mano" these days, you know the ones that weren't influenced by boxing or karate, because digging into its history, there was never one in the first place.

I get it that this is a demo, but do they ever practice with resistance? With non-cooperative opponents?

Very impressive, useful technique I. Street fighting. I guarantee this since I have used this move suddenly and non telegraphically more than 50 times so far and successfully. I can never miss to use this if the need be. Thanks. It is not useful against taller opponent as per my own personal experience.

All the new generation recognise its just judo applied to real fights, but judo has never done that itself so their strategies are indeed new and bjj newaza is more technical than judo ever was since they concentrated only on that.I started bjj back in 96 but was already a judo brown belt so always practised the throws and wrestling

Good luck applying these techniques in a real combat situation. Everything happens so fast and you won't have time to do all this. Better to slip the punches and find an opening to strike. After you've struck and stunned your opponent you can apply some sort of technique to bring him down to the ground.

From my experiance in working as a bouncer i can tell you that wrist lock or arm manipulation will not be that effective on someone who resist. It's best to soften him up first before iniating any of those moves. Speed, suprised and violent of action is the Key to Survival in real fight .
