I used to live in Nakuru, and I've been to the lake many times. This beautiful, nostalgic video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for this wonderful glimpse of home!

In Moroccan culture serving tea doesn’t mean that people want to sell you something. You are welcome my friend. Don’t talk negatively about a country where people welcomed you and you felt safe at!

You can tell a lot about a society by how they treat their animals. Ukrainians LOVE their animals.

*Search on KZbin for videos of foreign tourists in N. Macedonia and you'll see that most of them had great experiences. American, British, West EU, you name it. Lot of them use drones with no problem. I'm not saying that Rick is a liar, I just don't fully understand why this happened. Note that N. Macedonia is under strict monitoring by the EU and the US. It's not an isolated country like North Korea where you can just mistreat a western tourist so easily, esp. not Americans. The US embassy would certainly react. I don't understand many things in this story. And note that people have been mistreated by the greek, bulgarian albanian, kosovar or serbian border guards, too, including me, but people don't talk about it.*

It was 7 years ago and the Embassy did get involved. Many more people than me were robbed that day by the border guards. Now I understand this border post doesn't even exist anymore. The US Embassy advocated on my behalf and I received an apology from several ministries. I was invited back by the government but was advised not to go as I might be arrested at the border and tried for filming the border guard activity without permission.

@@yofitofu1 nothing can happen in Macedonia without the approval of the US and the EU. The policies of Macedonia are dictated by them and there're even US troops here since the 1990s. The US embassy is powerful and huge like Pentagon. So it's strange that someone can mess with an American. Also note that the govt changed. Back in 2016 the govt was led by Nikola Gruevski and then by his copartisan Emil Dimitriev. The citizens protested against them, they lost power, Gruevski was sentenced to jail for corruption and escaped abroad. He built those kitschy statues. These customs officials were his fans (judging by their FB). Note also that the pop-star Bojan Jovanovski (in the middle at 19:23 in your clip) is not really an innocent victim. He ended up in jail for bribing the prosecutor Katica Janeva. It was for real, not a set-up. Afaik, the Medžitlija border crossing is now working, maybe it was closed during the pandemy. But who works there now - I dunno.

This film is in line with what Tahoe has and is currently experiencing. Ventura didn't want intrusive development all in the name of profit. Tahoe also has the wealthy building intrusive large houses that do not conform to the current landscape or architecture of surrounding existing houses. Because Tahoe was descended upon by wealthy individuals 100 plus years ago who stripped it's resources for profit, acquired large swaths of land around the shores and beyond, this has lead to private landowners controlling shores and acreage that should've been dedicated to public use. Ventura was fighting for it's hillsides to remain intact, Tahoe fights for public access and to minimize extensive building growth. Does Ventura want to be taken over and dictated to by the wealthy? Tahoe has, as the wealthy have dictated to the TRPA what they want, and it doesn't involve preservative or public access. "If you build it, they will come", especially in areas that are unique.

Good thing I can understand English cuz it’s hard for me to understand the Serbian translation. Am sorry you had this experience in my land and my country, this is truly eye opening, corruption is indeed something we have been struggling with for a long time. This is the worst tourist story I’ve heard, I want to say am sorry and hope you are doing just great now, the smartest move you made was that you recorded when you could have.

Unfortunately civilians have resulted to being the victims of what is referred to as the Police Industrial Complex, and they need an enemy for a reason to militarize police and buy helicopters which are the most expensive since they are not allowed to buy fighter jets, yet....

Im Macedonian and ill tell you that they don’t hate Americans. They hate everything that moves cause they are full of frustrations and bitterness. They’ll give the same “hospitality” regardless of the nationality. So don’t take it so personal because they treat Macedonians the same way
