When Police Rescue was the only show to watch Gary Sweet and god forgive me I can't remember the lady's name, rapelled down the ABC building here in Hobart, I didn't see most of it, my mum and I were too busy watching the looks on the faces of my kids, not a stuntman or body double in sight, they really just bloody did it

Never seen this. The power and clarity in Thorpie's voice...could have been a natural in the live show...love this version with the choir. Can you updat and let us know during which show/performance this clip was filmed? Thx!

True story: I helped do the backing vocals on Oh My Country. Never heard the finished product until stumbling on this video. Billy was a class act and it was a great day in the studio.

I had the lp of it. It was pressed with some kind of blemish on the vinyl that made part of it look like chocolate candy way expired and turned white yellow. Also made subtle noise from the blemish. @braindead3xl , you sure you don't know someone from us? Do you know Bob Stroupe from 93Q? That's before I start at Mister oil change. I worked under Rick Jones, radio station engineer for 1430, and 1110 under contract. Met Dave Biondi during the emergency broadcast system being changed to EAS with shorter tones. Met the engineer at 1320. Lived under the magnetic cone of 1010. That last one was the KODA AM guy. Then became KLAT. I don't know if you're an engineer, dj, musician, or all of the above. On a serious note, I do need to schedule a conversation or even a cup of coffee at some point. I will be needing permissions in behalf of myself and at least one other youtuber to conduct an experiment. I want to do a very shortwave very am stereo test experiment. You have the rights to the music, KILLOKAT7 has the sdr receiver to pick up CQAM am stereo anywhere it tunes. I actually did a test over 20 years ago using basic am/pmx and everything fell into place. I just didn't have a 25Hz pilot tone in my phase channel. I want to do this again. This time I'll use a pilot tone. I actually need to for real, start my series on am stereo starting with this radio. This is my 3rd on. Not because of radio chip failure either. There are some folks our here who need a guide on how to set a Sony SRF-A100 all system am stereo. I wish I was able to purchase 1000 of this and or Sony A1 Walkman version. It's a radio thing. And I don't want KILLOKAT7 to get copyright strikes for broadcasting my program. I really want to coordinate with both of you folks for a live broadcast of all Billy Thorpe. I presented my need in advance. And YOU'RE THE MAN to ask concerning anything Thorpe. The ball is in your court brother. Didn't I subscribe in like 2012 or something like that? Idk? Anyhow, I axed my question. You're choice to reply, ignore or decline. But this experiment I want to repeat, or demonstrate, won't cost you or KILLOKAT7 a penny. Maybe even get all 3 of us more subscribers. Hope you get this post soon. 🖖✌

From memory Ray Brown had the hit in April 65 before The Aztecs released the album containing this track in 65. I was very familiar with Ray's version before I heard Billy's version. Both artists were probably performing the song on stage at the same time. They both played the same venues in Sydney at the time.

I assume Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs covered this tune 1st before Ray Brown and the Whispers hit version as this is an album track from 1964?

When Billy was in LA, he met up with the song writers of Poison Ivy (Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller). According to an interview with Billy, he approached them and quite proudly told them how he had a hit with their song in Australia thinking they would know who he was. They didn't. Quite the bow to the ego.
