It depends on what you like BC has the mountains in the lakes in the sea it's all on Vancouver Island but everywhere else in Canada gets less precipitation and more hours or sunshine in the winter time Alberta the sunniest province in Canada and snow is not as bad drive in as island snow it dry and then when it snow in Alberta it doesn't snow frequently every day and often they don't get big huge copious dumps of wet snow in places like Calgary all at once like the island can get occasionally On good months there can be a trace of snow or few cm that fall in Calgary then be cold sunny for days on end and it stays on the ground all month and you have several days of sunshine before snow again you will also find in Alberta that temperature minus side of things is not as bad as when it sunny day. Is there air mass is very dry I've been to Alberta in early October there plus 6 degrees I'm still in t shirt and shorts when it plus 6 on West Coast it wet cold

I remember the Blizzard of 1996 , when East-Central Vancouver Island got at least four feet of snow in 10 days during the latter half of December. Late December of 2008-2009 was a close second. Of course, I live in affordable Regina, SK. now, where winter is a way of life, rather than a novelty.

The major winter weather producer for Vancouver Island are these intense low pressure cyclones that don't have tropical origins. These intense systems bring insane winds and form in the northern Pacific quite a bit south of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and move to the east/southeast and slam into the west coast of the island. They can also form southwest of us and move north/northeast. The winds near the center of these storms are usually in excess of 60 mph but I've seen 75 mph and even 100 mph. The worst part is that they are not rare. They are frequent and relentless in the winter time. I used to live near Seattle and each winter I saw storm after storm slam into Vancouver Island's west coast, usually taking out our power grid along the way. In the winter of 2021 we had 8 storms and lost our power 8 times. And, the storms are becoming more frequent and severe. The most recent "bomb" cyclone is an extreme example of this. If you want to live in the coastal Pacific Northwest region you must have a whole-house automatic generator with at least a week's worth of fuel (usually a yard-bomb-sized propane tank unless you are on a city's natural gas system). You also can't have any trees nearby that can fall onto your home. We left the Pacific Northwest in 2022 due to ever-worsening and extreme weather events (heat domes, drought, wildfire smoke, windstorms).

Thanks for the video. ...and whilst it does focus mostly upon the more "extreme" (potential) winter-weather scenarios...it is also worth mentioning that (in general) the climate pattern from NOV thru to FEB (ie: the WET season)...is overall rather benign and quite gentle. Due to our local Køppen Csb (warm Mediterranean) micro climate here on the South/Central (eastern) region of the island. As a comparison analogy, I have spent 20 winters on Vancouver Island, many in southern England, and several in the Mediterranean region itself....(and for the most part) the winters here are on a par with many locations along the northern Mediterranean coastline...such as Venice, Zagreb, Trieste, across the Balkans, and even parts northern Greece. Plus, precipitation wise, both Victoria and Nanaimo are not even all that WET...with only around 23-42 (inches) of rain per year, of which 68% of that falling in the (NOV thru FEB) season. Just to put things into perspective, Tel Aviv, Israel (where I used to live) Chania (Crete) and many other (more southern) locations in the Mediterranean region get considerably more precipitation (and wild storms) during the winter months than Victoria or Nanaimo do. Overall, I find the winter climate here more like an extended Fall and very easy to tolerate. I wear shorts 24/7/364 and don't even own a pair of long trousers 😎

@@NanaimoreWell, I'm often rather surprised when even native-born Vancouver island locals say that we reside in a "rain forest" climate zone...because the truth is...we don't. That only applies to the western side of the island and the far north. From Victoria up to Oceanside...we enjoy the northern most Køppen Csb (warm Mediterranean) climate in the world. In fact, we get about a 5 degree LAT bonus - climate wise. It really shouldn't be like this....above the 49th LAT level. From early April right thru to about mid October we are incredibly dry....with just 137mm of rain (in Victoria) during that entire 6 month period. The summer months are classed as "arid" and are borderline desert zone. Which is precisely why our local figs grow so well here in Nanaimo, and there is a flourishing wine industry in the Cowichan valley. With 2,200 hours of sunshine per year, this region is noticeably sunnier (and drier) than any location in North or Central Europe. I've spent a number of summers in the south of France, and June thru August here in Nanaimo feels very similar.

People that live in homes commit crimes and are drug addicts with mental health issues but the real problem is fighting to let the crazy rich people use the wrong bathrooms while you still won't let the poor people use the right ones. HUGE flaw in your priorities when you claim that mental illness is a human right but continue to tear down any attempts people make to house themselves when you fail to provide it. You blame the poor for the problems created by the rich while letting them get away with murder but claim the poor are the criminals. Here's a small fact you keep overlooking...the poor don't feel safe either and suffer daily abuse at the hands of YOUR society.

Great video! We moved to the island from Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast about a year and a half ago. We took a trip to Quadra one day, stayed for 3 days and a couple of days in Campbell River and were amazed at how beautiful the area is and there are so many amenities as well. We moved to Campbell River and have never looked back. We have more than enough water here, while the Sunshine Coast has had water restrictions every year that make it hard to have a veggie garden. In 2022, on the Sunshine Coast, we were not allowed to use any outside water until December 14! The problem is going to get worse as all the new development there adds new subdivisions every year. In CR, we have 2 highways to head to the ferry, if we need to, but on the SC, only one highway, single lane for most of the way and anything, trees falling down, garbage day, school busses or construction can really slow down a trip to or from the ferry. You don't move to the island if you'll be needing to take the ferry to Vancouver often.. Campbell River is a much easier place to live than Halfmoon Bay is, especially for boaters, as there are so many more options for getting boat work done in CR or between CR and Nanaimo. We had to wait several months, but we did get in to a great marina that is minutes from our home. There are just so many more options for different businesses in general in CR and finding people to do whatever work you need done is not hard at all.. Also, the weather in CR is essentially the same as in HMB. CR might get a little heavier rain at times, but it's very temperate and not much snow, but it can get a foot of snow like it does on the Sunshine Coast. In 2023, it snowed in HMB before it snowed in CR. Campbell River has such amazing ocean views and lots of trails for walking or biking. The city does a decent job of keeping it up as well, but like everywhere else, there is some drug fueled crime and homeless people. No different from Sechelt though, or any other city. CR has a very diverse population and the people we meet say they would never want to live anywhere else.
