I just had your video suggested by the algorithm this afternoon, so this may be too late or more information than you wanted. I’m only just discovering this band myself, but I can tell you a few things, more from my own preferences and current state of knowledge than an impartial overview. (Apologies in advance for the essay.) - being German, the name is pronounced more like FAIR-sen-gold. - they’re from northern Germany and this video was probably filmed in Hegarty’s Irish Pub in Bremen. (See also Sally O’Brien). - the band have been around - with some changes in personnel - for over 20 years so they have a fairly hefty back-catalogue. - Versengold come from the mediaeval / Mittelalter scene in Germany which also produced Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz and d’Artagnan, and they still play the MPS (Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum) stage each summer, but they also play Wacken. - the lead singer, Malte Hoyer, is also I believe their main lyricist (maybe check out his latest project, _Dämmerland_), and I don’t have the words to do justice to the breadth and beauty of his lyrics - and that’s only looking at them in translation, as I don’t speak German. - Versengold certainly have a way with a cover: check out their version of Schandmaul’s _Tjark_ _Evers_ (“Versengold - Tjark Evers (Schandmaul Cover) | auf plattdeutsch” - caution, it’s a tragedy) which is considered by some to be better than the original. (A few years back Hoyer was invited on stage by Schandmaul to sing this with them, using his version of the words.) - the band seem like great guys and they work hard at keeping in touch with the fans: informative and amusing tour diaries, weekly news video, that kind of thing. - they’re incredibly versatile; their stuff includes drinking songs and hugely amusing silly stuff; they also have songs about the sea (Windsbraut, Tochter der Weiten), their home area (Wir feiern den Norden), life, love and loss (Mondlicht, Haut mir kein Stein, In Schmutz und in Schande, Song für Oma). Simply too many to mention and loads I haven’t even discovered yet. Any of the band’s German fans can tell you more than I can, but do feel free to come back with any questions. Off the top of my head, below is a very brief list of videos to try if you’re interested in getting an idea of Versengold’s range. I’m told youtube doesn’t like links in comments, so I’ve put instead the exact youtube titles of versions I think you’ll find worth a look.
