The better way to do this would be to just feed the webbing through the hammock end and proceed as normal. This way you don't have to worry about a breaking toggle.

A single knot works very well too if tied properly. Notice on the first knot he ties, he ties an overhand knot, then another overhand knot for the bow. Try this, I do it daily and it lasts all day: start with an underhand knot (you don’t need to double wrap anything) then tie an overhand looped (bow) knot. The knots snug together better and it doesn’t stick out. 👍.
