The ascending passage at 00:06:23 is the best music ever written

Harm: something keeps bringing me back to this recording and I’ve listened to it many times, looked up the music to follow and keep coming back. I have also followed Jos as an accomplished organist too. What to say, other than thank you for posting!

Stunning stuff, the stop lad and page turner to the organist's right side really enters into the sprit of the piece and is in awe of the master at the keyboard.

That 'stop lad' is a very good organist in his own right with his own YT channel. Such is the culture and training in NL that the youth are encouraged to play the organ

Toll gespielt und langsam. Die meisten spielen das leider 4x so schnell und alles verschwimmt. Und natürlich eine hervorragende Schnitzer orgel. Gibt es CDs von dir? Wären interessiert. LG Mario aus Mainz

Very good! But be careful... You lost the pulse in the fugue.

Really a piece that should be studied more by musicians - a wonderful mix of traditional and contemporary (for its time) trends in classical music. Particular interest is the 2nd part's wonderful counterpoint and expressiveness, the 3rd parts great tonal drift way out to the VII of C before using a common tone diminish chord to get back to V, and the Bachian fugue leading back to the chorale. What makes it rather remarkable is how Mendelssohn unites these seemingly 4 divergent sections into a whole.

Good performance. Finally we are able to listening to an organist who play it "correct" to the bery last measure!
@orgelschlaeger4 жыл бұрын
1:01 sounds somewhat strange to me, would have to look it up.. Nevertheless, good performance of a difficult work on a historical organ.
@geiryvindeskeland72084 жыл бұрын
orgelschlaeger, I am sorry for my inadequate English. I said: "....who play it "correct" to the bery....bery?..very last measure." My reply could create misunderstandings. I didn't ment the entire fugue, but the way he play the last 3-4 measures. Too many organists don't care about the final crotchet in the end. There are several small technical mistakes in this performance. But it doesn't matter to me, it is more important how they play between mistakes.
@orgelschlaeger4 жыл бұрын
@@geiryvindeskeland7208 oh my english also is 'inadequate'. But I did understand you well. Small mistakes in a real live performance really don't mind (me) (but 1:01 somehow sounds like a wrong learned key?), unfortunately the most performances where you can look on the players fingers in fact are fake ones with many cuts (I do notice them often). So thumps up for Harm W. and his real live perf. offering, in my opinion this is one of the most challenging bach fugues.

When listening to this piece (like to many others from Bach) something divine creeps under my skin. Can't explain it, but Lord the father seems to be very close!
