i cannot do this in the mirage f1 for the life of me lol. I always start pitching up and down when i get the basket on... idk how you manage to do this.. I can do it in the f18 but the f1 is not easy.. really good throttle and stick control.. but then again i always try it with 8x samp400hd's so that might be the problem lmfaoo

Trim the plane for level flight at the same speed as the tanker, before getting behind the wing. Then memorize your relative altitude to the tanker just at the point of where the probe connects with the basket. Because of the turbulence behind the wing, there is a sweet spot, where your plane wants to fly level. Go a bit lower and it will be pulled down - get a bit higher and it will be pulled up, by tanker's wingtip vortex. Correcting this in untimely manner could lead to overcontrol and PIO, because you will quickly go between the zones and you can end up still pulling up, but being already in the upper zone, where the Mirage "wants" to go up even more. The key is to watch for the sweet spot in relation to tanker and lessen the corrective pull up / pull down as you enter the sweet spot. Try to memorize and replicate the sight picture from my video (tanker vs. canopy bow).

trying this in the f1 mirage is nearly impossible i tried it for 2 hours straight and couldnt do it lol id get it in the basket and instantly fall out.. Then tried it with the f18 and did it first try... idk how people do it. But damn this helped alot.

As I said in the reply to your comment under my F1 refueling demo, it seems you're fighting tanker's wingtip vortex. Another possible explanation is unstable approach to the basket, which results in an unstable connection, which coupled with the vortex leads to PIO and disconnect. If you could post a recording of your attempt, I could comment on that and give you better tailored pointers.

Finally someone that gets that not every situation is VRS. This is a good example of VRS entry and recovery however, at mgw you are still closer to a descent with power than VRS, the biggest difference is the speed of entry. DWP is fast where you don't have enough power to arrest the descent due to the inertia of the helicopter, and it can look very close to VRS but recovery is not the same. During DWP you have to push over and put translational lift on the rotor system to increase the lift because you have run out of power and inertial velocity is still hurtling you towards the ground, so you have to be disciplined and keep your descent rate low, especially when you're heavy or when in hot and high conditions. Don't set up all your missions in DCS with max fuel and max weapons, because for one this is not realistic, and two, when it is hot it greatly reduces aircraft performance the same with high altitude. Just because the Apache can carry 16 Hellfires, doesn't mean you should try to take that many on every single mission. I carry a max of 8 Hellfires with rockets most of the time and about 50% fuel, this will give you about an hour of flight time and allow the helicopter to have plenty of power for hover entry.
@armapirx
@armapirx 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I have another video about avoiding VRS. The helicopter videos are the most difficult to make, because I try to present very complex topic in a short and usable manner. Helicopter aerodynamics are well explained elsewhere in full detail and I feel simply repeating for an hour, what I learnt there, would be pointless. Here I wanted to show, how to apply all that knowledge in practice, for I believe learning can be fun and rewarding, as opposed to stereotypical, dull RTFM.

@vitorarbex
@vitorarbex 8 ай бұрын
@@armapirx I´ve being training those profiles the last couple of weeks and one thing to keep in mind, if using the CLB4 is its rated for 5G max, I have ripped it off more than once, because the pull on those dives often are in the 7-8Gs if you are not carefull and that much will rip the Pylon off. Then you will need to repair to be able to rearm the center pylon again.
@armapirx
@armapirx 8 ай бұрын
@@vitorarbex I assume 5G limit comes from IRL, because I couldn't find it in manuals. I did a test now and I was able to pull 9G with 4x SAMP-400 on CLB4 and the pylon stayed in place. However I applied the load in a very progressive manner and it's still a risky proposition, given peculiarities of F1's flight control. On some runs I bent the wings, but the pylon stayed and I was able to drop its bombs afterwards, so no damage to bomb attachments either. Empty pylon seems to be able to handle even a hair above 10G. Anyway, it's a nice piece of additional info I didn't have and my recommendation is to always drop from the fuselage first and to drop all of the bombs at once (there are other good reasons for doing so).
@vitorarbex
@vitorarbex 8 ай бұрын
@@armapirx Yes I started to drop all fuselage bombs on a salvo on first run to avoid that, but even then it still a still big risk to rip the CLB4, but now that i know the limit, i´ll just make sure to keep the acelerometer bellow 5g when pulling from such dives. Vibora said on the forum they would raise the limit a little bit but i'll try not to go over 5g anyway.

Anymore info on the laser guided weapons? How do set the codes, input the coordinates etc
@armapirx
@armapirx 9 ай бұрын
The thing is LGBs are not integrated with F1 at all. All you can do, is to drop them. Laser code can be set up only through mission editor, for multiplayer you can hope that the default code 1688 was left alone and you can ask lasing party to use that. I would love if in the future Aerges implemented code setup through rearming menu. Target coordinates can be put into INS on F1 EE in a form of a waypoint. For CE/BE you have to find suitable TACAN radial / distance and use the offset function, which will guide you to the point, rather than TACAN itself. If that is not an option, just dive drop it like a dumb bomb and the guidance will take it from there.

CCIP is well described in the manual on pages 352-355. No need for a separate tutorial. Setting up the HUD for the manual mode is in the manual, pages 95 and 99. As for the actual use of it, you could watch my tutorial for Mirage F1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXTQlJugo5l2n5Y Different plane, but the idea is exactly the same. Attack profiles will work (they are excellent for CCIP by the way), as for the mil setting for the aiming pipper, they might be off - I haven't checked. The bombs have the same ballistic profile, but there might be a difference in airplane datum, out of which the mil depression is measured. You could start with Mirage settings and adjust from there.

@armapirx 10 ай бұрын
You can't use Vikhrs at night, as there is no FLIR system in the Ka-50. HOT3 has enough range (4300 m), as long as you're clever about using it. Also Gazelle is much more fun to fly, it is a superb trainer, which helps with piloting skill progression. Apart from ATGM and A2A missiles, you have the usual guns and rockets, as well as side mounted minigun gunner station, which you can use. Gazelle is more versatile, as it can pick up downed pilots or deploy SF recon teams in some scenarios.

Do you see a big difference for AAR since new update?
@armapirx
@armapirx 10 ай бұрын
No. After the update, Hornet is slightly more maneuverable in pitch and roll, but it doesn't really make any difference, if you have good basic technique. Improved engine response actually makes the refueling easier. Change to the S-3 tanker itself is more important, as the previous patch introduced prettier visual model, which also had the basket fuel line shortened. Now the length of the hose is the same, as it was before that change, which helps with proper positioning.

So called burble. IRL it is an area of turbulent airflow, caused by carrier movement and wind over deck. In DCS it's exaggerated. It doesn't help, that Hornet's model of ground effect is lacking as well. Both are long standing areas waiting to be improved and a reason for slow carriers with little to no wind in most scenarios.

To my surprise, it turned out I perform automatic compensation for the burble with throttle, so that the jet flies straight path, albeit with pitch up, but it won't baloon at the ramp - which could cause bolter.
