10:40 This is so incredible good! The prerecorded phone call and how it’s used minutes later. Worked in radio in the 80s. This is what we aimed for but never reached. This is absolute gold with Bill at his peak!

As a fellow that worked in radio from the late 80s up to now, this is what radio was meant to be. I could listen to this forever. Now days it's crap music and computer satellite fed garbage. I'd lay in bed in the 80s listening to live radio like this and the absolute best decade of music that will ever exist.

The fed and tech isnt the problem, time changes. You can still do radio this way with todays tech. Its just a very hard competition in the scene where ever you look. Im technician at a swedish community radio, have had shows during 2009-2012 :)

Feel free to correct me... and this is to take nothing away from the talent, as it is unquestionably tops. But the constant micro adjustments on the faders.... My limited understanding of radio would dictate these adjustments are unnecessary and mostly serve more as a tick, ie a habit for the hands. Radio compression is blown so far out, that channels are essentially either on or off. Of course not strictly, but generally. I would assume very minor adjustments to the faders anywhere past around 60% equate to no noticeable difference in the output program.
@ChrisSpil
@ChrisSpil Жыл бұрын
That is correct. The micro adjustments are for the *relative* levels among the sources. E.g a recorded phone call is playing over the air, and the next song is playing under.

Hot 103/97 between 1987 -1991 was the best years for Dance music 🎶 🎵 🔥 the formula was incredible until around mid 1992 when they were changing its format to HIP HOP and R&B which was a complete horror show for me and others who loved this great station.

The death of freestyle hurt Hot 97 a lot. The ratings tanked, jocks left and the station (sadly) went a different direction. You should check out clips of KTU when it signed on in 1996. It’s what Hot 97 would have sounded like if it made it past 1993.

@@tonynotaro3654 I remember KTU 103.5 it was ok, they did bring in a few WQHT radio personalities like Broadway Bill Lee, Fast Freddie Colon and even Al Bandiero so.it was ok.

Note the low energy guy was caller 96. And the excited woman just happened to be caller on air? There are NEVER 97 lines into any radio station. But a monotone guy doesn't make good radio. Pro tip if you enter a radio comp. Be excited!

Did Hot and Z100 use the same jingle? Sorry for asking not sure?
@JornBjerregaard

I think a lot of stations across the U.S. “borrowed” from Z100. The station went from worst to first in less than 3 months when they started in 1983. Check out Scott Shannon who was the PD and morning jock when the station began. He invented the morning zoo format and basically revolutionized radio with his ideas and imaging/jingles. Almost every station in NY broadcast from Empire State Building but he was the first to promote it on air, and it had a huge impact. A lot of other radio stations, on air talents and producers were very much inspired by this.
