I’m from AUSTRALIA, unfortunately never grew up on a ranch, which was my dream. My father grew up on a dairy farm and trained and raised trotters for harness racing. He taught this city kid all of the basics you talk about. 5hank you sir, nice video👍

Really interesting to see how you do your maintenance! One of my boys has recently expressed an interest in being a hay farmer; of course, he's only been watching the sanitized kids' videos about it. I'll see if I can get him interested in this one tomorrow so he can see more of the reality of it. On another note, has KZbin remonetized your videos? I'm getting ads on your videos now, and if you're getting the revenue I won't skip them. Have fun on your trip!

Well said Chris. Things in life are what you make them. A buddy of mine retired two years ago at 60 and he enjoys the heck out of his little 25 acre farm. I still work but hope to retire in another 3 years. I enjoy my hobbies and crafts. I’m not rich and never will be unless I pick the right six numbers some day. But I enjoy my life. I have been told that municipal contracts require that paving projects require that 30 percent be reclaimed millings. Many contractors inmy area, western New York state, offer millings for driveways. One of my neighbors had milling used for his driveway and it's has lasted for years.

I think I've mentioned before that I'm co-writing a story set in the west. My co-author is a rancher('s wife) and knows what she's talking about. I'm an East Coast suburbanite and don't. 😂 But now when she wants to write about farrier work I'll be able to fake it much more convincingly. 😉
@10CowRanch-gn1iyАй бұрын
That is interesting If you need some real life content about life in west I love would to be a part of it. I am not a writer but I did write an article about a gun project once. I could not get any interest from any publisher on it. I am not college educated but when it comes to life on the ranch I can build or fix just about anything. I think you have my email if you would like to correspond that way It might be better than on the comment section
@BrievelАй бұрын
@@10CowRanch-gn1iy I'm not sure if I have your email; is it in your description or on your profile? I can go look. What we're writing is fiction and only occasionally focuses on the work, but I like to be as authentic as possible in my depictions of the day-to-day. (Eg, whether she comes from all the men ALWAYS wear button-downs, whereas where I'm from you never see a man except in a t-shirt. That sort of thing.) That said, your videos about saddles and horses and farrier work have taught me so much, and I've incorporated all that knowledge into my writing. ...it's also inspired me with a desire to one day go west but I know very well what everyone thinks about tenderfoot easterners showing up so I'm not quite as sure about that one. 😅

Enjoyed the video. I'm a 73 year old female who asked for a horse at 5 years old and cried Christmas morning when I got a bouncing spring horse (according to my Mom), At 17 I got a horse that came from the bucking string, If I left him more than one day without saddling up and riding, he would buck me off once, then he would be good. Not his fault, he thought that was how it was supposed to be. Those that rode with me would be quiet until he did his buck and then we could ride. I Usually went over his head with the reins in in my hands.
@10CowRanch-gn1iyАй бұрын
I got my first horse when I was 14 because no one could ride him. The guy told me "if you can break him you can have him". He bucked everyday for the first 30 days. He was a great cowboy horse but he needed a lot of work to do. Thanks for the comment
@boydsteenblock1328Ай бұрын
King is a keeper. Do you take him hunting? That disposition would probably be good for that. Horses can spot game better than humans. “Spirited “ horses have their place, but I bet King won’t turn your ride into a rodeo if a grouse flushes nearby. I saw a horse buck off it’s rider and jump a corral fence at the Nebraska sate fair once because a Walmart bag blew across the arena.
@10CowRanch-gn1iyАй бұрын
King is real good about that kind of stuff I might use him this year for elk hunting. A horse is a great help for the pack out job

I admire you guys that do your own foot work. Honestly, we always had a farrier visit our barn on a regular schedule. I would pull a loose shoe before it busted up the foot. Having reiners, it wasn't uncommon for a sliding plate to get loose, or come off in between farrier visits. Shoeing is man's work for sure.
@10CowRanch-gn1iy2 ай бұрын
Those sliders are a real pain for sure. The reined cowhorse guys are using sliders with a treaded insert so when they go down the fence they can get a little traction. I am glad to have the skill set to do my own farrier work but it seems like it is getting harder on me as the years go by. Thanks for you support of both channels
@boydsteenblock13282 ай бұрын
You are a true horseman Chris. My brother had a horse ranch in Nebraska and I spent a lot of time around horses growing up but never learned how to shoe. I did learn however, that a dirt bike stays where you leave it when you get off and you don’t have to walk two miles back to the barn! lol We have a few farriers around here but they don’t do enough business to be full time.
@10CowRanch-gn1iy2 ай бұрын
@@boydsteenblock1328 The comment about the dirt bike made laugh. I do love a good dirt bike almost as much as a good horse (almost). In the spring I ride a WR 450 gathering cows off the desert. The bike is very valuable. I just put a big ranch hand bumper on my truck. My plan is to have the motorcycle in a rack on the front of the truck. So I can a horse in half of the trailer and cows in the other half. I will do a video on it,
