We all need to learn about this especially involving kids having psychotic phenomena because kids or teens are involved. In today's time bullying is the trend by bashers in online and on face- to -face set-up

Mood dysregulated children??? They're children! You should be looking at abuse, neglect, and poverty, not made up medical illnesses. You people use "clinically relevant" studies that are deeply flawed and are biased towards the use of diagnosis and medications to treat made up disorders.

While Lithium may be the premier treatment what must be realised is that for numerous reasons it is not tolerated eg tremor, weight gain, cognitive impairment, emotional blunting, thyrotoxic effects, kidney destruction. This means there needs also be a proper focus on alternatives. This is not evident in this video: there is a sense of triumphalism of Lithium. However it helps only one in seven Bipolar sufferers. I have taken it for 16 years but the side-effects are now intolerable : where to turn to now?

Family and peer bullying can and will lead to psychotic symptoms, and all you need to do is look at people like Charlie Mansion, Aileen Wournos, and many others that were executed, died in, and are serving time for serious crimes. You can look at school shootings, and bullying behaviors against the killers is definitely one of the root causes, and there are many others that won't act on their impulses. However, those that won't act out violently will have an increased degree of rage, a quicker temper, and ready for a fight long years after the bullying has ended... Its a shattered pane of glass that can't be fixed in the case for all of them.

@Tyler Logan You have my empathy dealing with him. I was married to a man like that, and he now has lost a good deal of his brain capacity. (He blamed me for the dishes that he used and left in the sink.) Alcohol damages the brain permanently, amongst heavy drinkers. So sorry you have to deal with that. Learn a skill and move away from him.

I find it interesting that psychiatry refers to ECT as "evidence-based" when there are no universally recognized protocols for it's administration allowing research outcomes to be replicated in community settings. Literally every single study has a different administration methodology and none of them are replicated... they've basically created 80 years of anecdotal evidence... Dr. Kolar spends the first part of his introduction explaining the lack of standards regarding electroconvulsive therapy use... and how it's not effective. I guess I don't understand their rational for continuing it's use without safety testing, standardized operating procedures or proof of sustained long-term benefits. Then Sackeim goes on to say that Psychiatry vehemently denied ECT has long-term cognitive effects only to realize it really can cause permanent damage... but they have created ways to minimize it... problem is, those guidelines are used universally--because there are ZERO strictly regulated universal dosing standards or methods of administration... because again, they're using anecdotal experimentation which cannot be replicated to a larger null... leaving the general public to assume that all ECT is created equal and that every doctor gives it to every patient in the exact same way--which is not true. So we have grossly injured patients, desperately seeking cognitive rehabilitation after suffering permanent consequences... and then being denied comprehensive brain injury assessments and rehabilitation. Memory loss is but one of MANY serious adverse effects. None of the other adverse effects were even discussed in this video... psychiatry ignores them, ignores the fact they don't routinely assess for them and ignores patients who desperately need support because their lives have been irreparably altered by repetitive iatrogenic brain injury. If ECT ever gets banned it will be because psychiatry didn't put it's own research to use in ameliorating risks of permanent brain damage by prioritizing patient safety. If they were genuinely interested in prioritizing patient safety and reducing risk of permanent effects, they would have taken all their "guidelines" to the international regulatory agencies and turned them into Standardized, regulated protocols. The reality of the situation is, they really aren't striving for patient safety or universally improved outcomes. They are doing nothing to ensure all their research is applied in the community setting. Consequently, patients hear these amazing new promises about the new and improved ways to get ECT--and then go to a community ECT clinic where their doctor is using the same method he learned during residency back in the 80's. It's a sham. Then patients get injured and no one knows how to help!

These videos tell the truth about a greatly increased practice that has no FDA testing for safety or even effectiveness and provide information and resources. CA courts have proved brain injury outcomes at minimum, yet it continues with a fallible consent. This generates billions annually in the US alone. Increase in suicide following. Inform yourselves, please as given Covid and the mental distress many are at risk for being offered this. No longer just for depression nor used as a last resort. Cover-ups of harm for decades. No FDA testing for safety or effectiveness involved in ECT or electroshock. There is a current national product liability suit taking place around the untested devices that the CA courts have proved brain injuries at a minimum. Dr. Bennet Omalu famous for findings of CTE in the NFL is now on record stating the same outcomes anticipated in ECT patients given the repeated brain injuries from electrical trauma. This trauma can evolve years out in damages such as ALS, CTE, and ongoing cardiac issues. There is also a significant increase in suicide following this procedure. See site ectjustice.com on youtube look up site called Life After ECT. also endofshock.com and ect.org. This is brain injury passed off as mental health treatments. Billions involved annually. No longer a last resort nor just for depression. Consent is fallible and we are working to bring additional types of suits around this issue. Contact the DK law group in CA if you have had ECT. Please have discussions about this hidden issue on public social to make this situation clear to the general public who is at risk. Covid and mental health distress secondary will put people at risk for having this procedure offered if they are in distress. This is a video to assist those that have had ECT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXPEiHp5rNOrgsk

Sounds like a lot of information and data, but no mention of human beings. This kind of approach scares me a bit, because it seems to miss the complexity of the human system/life on Earth. It's very heady but not so grounded in my opinion.

@@zoro5035 My primary thought is that it seems strange that the alternative is just another narrow (admittedly in depth) field of understanding the human being, as If we are not integrated systems living in an integrated system. I feel as though neither field understands Bi-polar very well without the insights of perspectives. There seem to be very few people practicing in human wellbeing that have have a holistic understanding of how to care for patients, thus patients are not finding true healing, but rather bandaging. All respect to Matthew and this channel but this approach leaves a lot to be desired from the patient perspective in my opinion. Take Care

Electroshock or ECT has no FDA testing for safety or even effectiveness. The devices that deliver up to 450 volts to the brain and greater have never been tested by the FDA. There is a current law suit taking place on a national level around the devices. California courts have proved brain injury outcomes at a minimum. Patients are showing damages on MRI, SPECT, PET scan, EEG, neuro/cognitive testing etc. Long term outcomes, as electrical trauma in damages can evolve over years can lead to CTE and ALS. See ectjustice and site Life after ECT. Book by Linda Andre called Doctors of Deception also helpful.

See ectjustice.com and ect.org. Law suits national around electroshock devices. See DK law group to join. No FDA testing of devices or procedure ever done. CA courts have proved brain injuries. Long term outcomes of electrical trauma are ongoing cardiac issues, dementia, ALS, CTE etc. Patients showing damages on MRI, VNG, SPECT, neuro/cog testing, EEG, EKG etc . Doctors own research describes actual structural brain changes that result from this to include damages to brain stem where autonomic functions reside. Consent basically describes temporary memory loss. 5 billion generated from this annually in US alone. See recent you tube videos by myself and Jane Rice. Medical malpractice firms interviewing around issues with consent. Suits filed against the FDA. These are NFL type head injuries just a different mechanism of trauma. Lies and cover ups for decades. Being used on our children, women in pregnancy, and our Veterans as well. Patients secondary to brain injury do not realize their damages right away. Inform and protect yourselves. Increase rate of suicide following ECT trying to find help and rehabilitation for TBI outcomes.A
