Just curious why do you put a layer of plastic on top of the panel?
@bespokeleathering
@bespokeleathering 9 ай бұрын
Hey! Firstly, thank you or taking an interest🙏 and watching and great question.👍 The reason a layer of plastic sheet is put over the console is because this as well as the leather have been coated in heat reactive adhesive and left to dry. I can lay the leather onto the part as it stands, and it will not stick. Just as if neither of the parts have adhesive on them. Applying direct heat re-reacts the adhesive on both parts which will allow the leather to stick to the console. The plastic sheet acts as a non-stick barrier between the leather and the console as it will not stick to either. I will tear this barrier in specific areas that I’m working on where I want to introduce heat so that the leather sticks, slowly removing this barrier as I work around the part. Residual heat from the heat gun flowing out can cause the adhesive to become tacky causing the leather to stick in areas that I’m yet to focus on which would be a bit of a pain. A little bit is ok, but it is something you want to avoid. Especially if you are using normal contact adhesive. So, introduce heat in specific areas, get stitching line correct, and set the rest of the leather in place while slowly working around the console and removing the barrier makes for an excellent finish. A big plus is that if I go back to the part and see something I do not like (say the stitching is slightly off) then I can heat that area and remove the leather, realign, and set it back down. After 48 hours the adhesive cannot be re-reacted with heat. It is set for good. Kind regards…BL

Great video, Bespoke…! Superb work and great execution. Kudos on the result! Truly helpful to a lot of us E46 M3 owners out there. Can I ask…have you ever refinished the non-leather, black parts of the door cards. The black lower parts of the door cards can get pretty beat up on these M3s. Would love to hear your ideas and/or see a video if you have a method that works best. Thanks again for a great video!
@bespokeleathering
@bespokeleathering Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated 🙏 The door cards suffer from two things that can be address. 1. As you have pointed out, the bottom of the door card which recieves and few kicks overs the years making it looks a little aged. 2. The speaker surround which gets scratched and marked. The lower section as you know is the main outer part of the doocards. This can 100% be renovated so that it looks like you had just purahsed it new from BMW. Yes, there are the small marks to the surface ( usualy on the edges) and a little work can help to better these. The speaker housing again, can be renovated so that it looks brand new which is something we have done quite a few times.. I do have some spare door cards so what i will do is plan in the next few months another "Classroom" video to show how both can be restored.😎

Hi mate, cracking video! How do you go about re attaching the leather panels? To the door cards after drilling the heads off? Thank you!
@bespokeleathering
@bespokeleathering Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank you! When the insert is removed you will see small tubes, and this is what’s left when removing the heads. You can use small 4mmx20mm wood screws to reattach. You may need some 13mm washers as well. Hot melt glue (I use Black) is put over the heads of the screws once they are all tight to prevent them from vibrating loose. *Please do not drill all the way through the main door card (seen in the video when the insert is removed) as you will be using some of that material to put the washer on which the screw will go through to help pull it tight.* There will be a couple of places where you cannot use the screws as it's too shallow. For these areas a few drops of hot melt will be fine. The main “grab” is with the screws. I would not advise using hot melt glue only or any other bonding agent because if you want to remove and colour change them again or if your first attempt of refitting doesn’t not work then it can get very messy. …BL

Thanks for the video. In my 2003 e46 coupe, these wires were fine, but two other sets of wires were broken/severed. The red wire to the rear-most motor plug was completely broken and there was a small black, two conductor wire going from the loom connection to the seat back that was completely severed. After I reconnected all these wires the battery was totally dead over night. So essentially what I'm saying is the wiring under these seats could be a total horror show. Good luck! I was able to de-pin the connector to the motor with two cell phone sim card ejection tools that I cut to slide in on either side of the connector that I was looking to remove. It was a complete pain in the... pins.

Hi, On this headliner we used a high temperature spray glue and as you can see it was on the none stress, flat areas. So all the material will do is lay down. For the stress areas ( edges and anywhere the material as to be formed into) we us contact adhesive as this has a much better grab. for the stress areas you will find that when you brush the contact adhesive on it will soak into the headliner and offer no adhesion. So you need to apply contact adhesive onto all the stress areas and then dry with a heat gun or hair dryer. This stops the adhesive soaking into the headliner. THEN when you come to lay the new material onto the headliner and apply contact adhesive on the stress areas it will not soak in and still be tacky for when you lay the material down. Good Luck!...BL

Do you reckon it is possible to change black heated leathers into Cinnamon?
@bespokeleathering
@bespokeleathering 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes it is but it will be very involved. Preparation is KEY (Not just cleaning but strippng the seat, changing out any worn/damage or furry top stitching. this will dictated not only the outcome but also the longevity. A "Beige" colour should be used to reduce the black, then applcation of Cinnamon. Cinnamon as a colour is more transparent than beige and using beige will mean you will use less Cinnnamon to get a uniform finish (less coats means less chance of clogging stitching)

Hi Guys! We understand the “How Much” comments, but we will not post up costs of a renovation. KZbin is to showcase the work undertaken and if enthusiasts/owners are interested then we will require images of their interior and are more than happy to go through the work/quotation process with them. There is a huge amount of variation, detail, care, and effort to renovating and all this is taken into consideration. Seeing images offers an idea, overview, insight into an interiors condition and what work may be required. The next stage to confirming is to get hands on a feel the leather, look in more detail at any areas of concern, work out if any of our processes need changing (“Cause and Effect”) so that we can promote longevity. Posting up approximate costs of a renovation could be way off the mark (and out of date) if viewed by someone who then feels that their interior may cost this much and be put off when in fact it could turn out to be a lost less. On the flip side, it could give the wrong impression and a renovation could be double or triple. If you would like a quotation based on your interior which you then post up feel free. Just remember to also add our full response (which will be detailed & comprehensive) along with all the images. This will then offer an insight into your interior renovation costs which people can view. Posts/conversations that start a debate questioning costs can spiral out of control and quickly soon lose sight of the fact that this is about what can be done to a much-loved classic. As enthusiasts we know there are many other” Platforms” that these and other debates takes place. This post will not be one of them. Kind Regards…BL
