Came here to see if the Baldwin Loop was any better than when I last rode it about 15-20 years ago. It was completely overgrown back then, much like what you experienced. For our ride, it was also full of ticks, so when we finally got back to the road, the two of us looked like mostly hairless monkeys grooming each other. That was the ride where I learned to put my bike up on the back wheel and push through the weeds ahead of me. Looks like there are other comments about the overgrown condition and stinging nettles on the MTB Project "Best of..." page as well. I personally prefer the "Wilder Ranch Singletrack Loops," and then finish with a ride out to the Ohlone Bluffs and have a break on one of the beaches (Fern Grotto/Sand Plant/Strawberry).

Thinking about it I think you put the Lock Washers on the wrong side, see the way your doing simply has no effect on the Chainring's alignment, NONE, now if you placed said Lock Washers on the other side of the arm it would've shifted the alignment! O.o
