Hi Emily! the part that I found most valuable was the pre-production process, where you had min-chats with potential people you would cast. I didn't realize all the thought that had to go into the film before it was made!! I'm only a high schooler but you made me think a lot about documentary filmmaking as a career.

Great video! Could I make a suggestion? having the speakers be so small on the screen and having the lines running in the background was really distracting. I think a more static background or even just having the speakers fill up more of the screen could make it a bit better :)

I've recently picked up some freelance writing work. Writing articles and listicles for one client, KZbin scripts for another. At the moment my weekly wok makes me £140, but I'm thinking of binning my physical work to take on more writing work, with a mind on potentilly moving abroad.

Hey Emily, I'm a documentary filmmaker hailing from the breathtaking Hunza Valley in the Karakoram Mountains of Northern Pakistan . As we dive into documentary scriptwriting, how can we infuse the cool essence of our unique locations and experiences into the narrative while maintaining structure and coherence?
@EmilyStoker
@EmilyStoker Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your question😊 I think it’s a great one. A key way to do this would be through the visuals. Maybe it will help you to create a mood board as you plan what you want your video to feel like. Or you can use the visuals column of your script. I love Unsplash and Pinterest as places to look for inspiration shots. Don’t forget that the music/other SFX and the interactions or details you choose to focus on in actuality/B roll are also key elements in building the feeling you want your film to have :)

Thankyou for this fantastic overview of your process Emily! Your authenticity and thoroughness in producing this doco about doco-making is appreciated, and really encourages me on my own filmmaking journey. I have definitely learned I need to be better at planning, and would love to know more about how you help set expectations and work with clients. Thanks again!

Hi Thomas! Thanks for your comment :) I'm so glad you feel encouraged! I think it's a great question, I'll add it to my list! One thing I would say is that it's great in initial conversations with the client to be really clear about the timeline and what the process will look like on your end. hese deliverables were also decided based on a conversation about what they actually needed. It's definitely part of the job to educate them on what the process is like so you can nurture a successful collaboration and ultimately reach their goals. I hope to catch you on the next video at the start of September :)

Very informative! The pre production is probably one of the most seemingly daunting aspect of the final product (and probably the least popular on KZbin) but I'd love to see more of these pre talks with interviewees.😊

Thanks so much, Jules! I just checked out your channel, too. I speak French so I enjoyed practising a little by watching Rêves de vie :D I totally agree that pre-production (honestly, the role of producer in general and in particular story producing) really isn't talked about much online. Glad to hear that others are interested to hear more about it, too :)

Thank you so much for creating this video. As I am involved in documentary film making, it was just a pure pleasure to understand the process before the project reaches me as a fixer/producer. Your aesthetics and storytelling is really soft, soothing and engaging and at the same time, focused, straight to the point and informative. I am so curious and excited for what you will create next. Tips on getting the reach you have mentioned in the end of the video would be very interesting. Also, maybe breaking down stages of film making into separate videos? Anything that can make us feel like a "fly on the wall" and help us understand the creative process better. Thanks again. I really enjoyed watching this.

I’m a native french speaker, your french is really good, of course the pronounciation could be better but there are almost no grammar mistakes which is quite tough in french (even for us lmao) I learned english mostly by myself (at school it helped a bit as well but mostly from the internet), I also learned german for 12 years at school (but somehow I still can’t make a sentence fluently), and finally italian by myself as well (tho it could be improved by far) I’m now learning swedish because I’ll be going there on holiday, and Finnish because I find it nice. Would love to learn more languages like portugese, dutch (mostly for flemish in belgium), maybye a slavic language too but I don’t have time for all that x)

I've known several women who traveled to Naples and it wasn't good. One got followed and grabbed saying "Caio Bella" over and over. The guy was trying to pull her onto a bench. Another was pulled into an alley where she was sexually assaulted by gropers ranging in ages from 11 to 85. Grabbing her breasts sticking their hands down her pants, until her boyfriend showed up. The police told her "you walk with boyfriend" Another girl was accosted at a bar by guys trying to grab her and literally take her outside and put her in a taxi, she got harassed on the street, in a hostel, they refused to leave alone. She said it was a nightmare.
