I have been told not to use Kenpo on a boxer?? Got a link to that outcome?
@mynameistrd68414 ай бұрын
he used US people's boredom at the time of Karate's rigid techniques and exploit US people's imagination with compliant, single attack then freeze attacker as if that works. Most of his so called techniques end up with groin strike. Delusional. I can't imagine what the great Benny the jet and Billy Wallace had in their minds while Parker demonstrated his 'made up' techniques in the same TV show.

When I was 10 I won the IKKA East Coast Karate Championship (PeeWee) and during that tournament I got kicked in the family jewels by an 18 year old who lied about his age. I had a cup on but it still dropped me. Master Parker brought me over a Hershey which I turned down. I really didn't want to eat at that moment. On a side note, my mother sang with Elvis once on a train they both were traveling on. Master Parker was always and still is my hero

Kenpo technique C'not be applied at a real fight for its just a technical thts all and Ed Parker is teaching 'nothing ' but a 'Silat ' movement labeled with the name of 'Kenpo ' . This man fake the technique.
@xOm3gAx13 жыл бұрын
I have personally used Parker lineage kenpo in real fights more than once, it works without question and has been improved greatly under Paul Mills. You bring the accusation, you should provide proof of your claim. If you dont understand the principles behind each movement, both major and minor than you have no idea of how its used or works which is apparent.

I studied in an Ed Parker studio many years ago. It was an excellent experience. I also met Ed in person once. What an amazing human being. He is sorely missed.

I myself met Ed Parker as a student back in the early 70’s in his studio in Pasadena. He was with a beautiful blond as I recall, maybe his wife. We all lined up and he instructed us,one by one to throw a punch at him. I held back my punch and he scolded me, “if I didn’t throw a harder punch he was going to hit me harder”. To his wife’s dismay he hit me hard enough to break a rib. I was a white belt. I never thought much of the man after that. I did make it to orange belt after that. Kenpo has helped me numerous times over the years. I do hit assailants very hard. He would have been proud of me.

Once FGM Ed Parker passed I followed his advice, “Be a rebel for change!” Which I did. The problem is that many followers of FGM, Founding Grandmaster Ed Parker get caught up in the exact physical motion as he taught decades ago. I follow his teachings to continually improve the art and yourself and his teaching methodologies were brilliant! Using stories and metaphors in teaching to help better communicate ideas faster and more efficiently. I was one of the first to add MMA, mixed martial arts, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in the early ’90s. At our school BVKJ, we changed the techniques many techniques to make them simpler and more effective in today's environment of combat. FGM Ed Parker would have wanted us to keep improving the system, and I have… He passed almost two decades ago, the world of martial arts has changed more in the last two decades than it did two hundred years prior, i.e. internet, NHB, MMA, UFC, and on and on. FGM Ed Parker was a genius! But, don’t get caught up in his physical motion, but his logic will set you free as it has me.

Looking at this i cant really agree with some of the techniques here there are lots of circular movements that to me seem wasted As a wing chun man i am conditioned to respond in a straight line and to me that makes sense, but im pretty sure the philosophy is sound and that the art did indeed evolve over time i particularly like the "dance of death" and im considering utilising the principle to fit in with my own training I have a background in Lau Gar & JiuJitsu and together with wing chun the range would be just perfect!

If you are such an authority on Ed Parker's ' deficiencies ', WHY didn't you attend at least ONE of his seminars or tournaments and PUBLICLY ' educate ' HIM ? From personally being around Ed Parker and training with him, I can assure you that YOU would have been in for a SERIOUS EDUCATION if you would have ever ' jumped him ' in the street at night !! ** He had only TWO RULES that he lived by for ' street fights '. 1. You never kick anything BELOW the soles of the opponent's feet. 2. You never kick a WOMAN in the testicles. * Other than those rules, EVERYTHING ELSE was ' open season ' ! ** There is an old adage that goes as follows : " It is easy to be brave from a distance. " ** There is another one that says " dead men can't defend themselves. "

It's been my experience that different styles and even different schools of the same style use different names for the same techniques. For example: I was taught "leopard fist" for the fore-knuckles fist/punch in an Ed Parker studio, yet a couple of years later, in a Tracy studio, they called the same technique a "half-fist" punch. The names are irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. It's the validity and usefulness of the technique that really matters.
