I wish I have not missed that. If I talk about French regions that I adore as whole, Alsace would be no 1, Loire would be no 2 and Beaujolais (villages) would be no 3. In my blind tasting challenges those are, I think, I never got wrong. The terroir is just there in your face for all three of them for me. And I first say “it’s Alsace” before I go for the grape or producer. In Alsace Riesling is always the king for me, but “Alsatian” texture, this oily thing that you mentioned, is always there for all nine grapes of the region, and very attractive to me. I dislike Pinot Gri as a grape, but Alsatian one still got to me… Beaujolais - favorite is Brouilly but I love them all. In your wine, the latest release, I can’t but think about Brouilly when I’m having it. I know you’re going for the Southern Rhône with your grapes, but the style…

Looking at wine prices you wouldn't know that wine consumption is down. Go try to buy a wine from a Napa Valley winery and see what they charge for a base Cabernet Sauvignon. Peju charges $75 for their wine, and Stags Leap charges $70. On top of these crazy prices is an $18 shipping fee. As for the younger generation, they want a wine that we (us) wouldn't consider to be a wine. These young people want a sugary, fruity liquid that will get them drunk. These younger people do not understand wine other than it is fruity and sweet. You might not want to say it but I will. Brands such as Cupcake, Barefoot & Stella Rosa to name a few are what they are after, junk wine or as we both probably enjoyed when we were younger, a wine cooler (California Cooler:) What the industry needs to focus on is getting the 30+-year-olds to discover that as you said wine should show its place, where it is from, and that wine is not supposed to be drippy and sweet. At the very same time though, the wineries need to understand that expendable income is drying up to a large extent and that things are only going to get worse. You appear to be a business owner so you probably already know all of this so I am preaching to the choir lol.

I used the Casale Del Giglio Cesanese in a wine tasting of Central Italy wines a while back. Very interesting red that the Romans might possibly have drank themselves. I enjoyed your picks as this is the time of year when magazines and others are sharing their "Top" lists and I am always curious what might be out there that I should keep my eyes open for. I'm always looking for value, and we all know where to go if we really want to burn through some cash.

That Rioja magnum is SO good. We bought and drank one already - couldn't resist opening it, and now we need to get another!
