Very interesting and informative video. I will admit, as a kid, after the events of T6, I hated Jin as a character. I thought he was a self righteous prick that only did things for “the greater good” even though he killed a lot of people to get to that point but as an adult, I became analytical with fictional characters since I like to see and explore the nuances of these characters, which brings me back to Jin. During this road, it kind of made me realized that they really did have something special with Jin’s story back in T4 when it comes to the duality of Jin’s bloodline, the problem is they didn’t follow it up in a satisfying way. Now in T5, I honestly wouldn’t mind that game’s story as the weird one. Though I will admit, It is a missed opportunity to not have Jin and Jinpachi have some meaningful conversation about how Jinpachi wanted to die and how this can add to Jin’s inter feelings on himself and his blood but I feel like that can be more properly expanded upon in the next gen games since T5 was (and also was the last) arcade era/original Namco Tekken game (since the Namco Bandai merger happened in 2006) but in T6, the story I feel like jumped the shark when Jin caused WWIII because in all honesty, I actually don’t mind Jin being a villain for one game, it just wasn’t executed well at all thanks to him becoming much worse then his grandpa and his father and I think this motivated me on wanting to do a Tekken 6 rewrite. I think this is the reason why I find his depictions in Tekken Bloodlines and the Project X Zone games a breath of fresh air, which in Project X Zone’s case, it is more of a continuation of Namco X Capcom, which ironically Tekken 4 was the most recent game at that time, which is why he had the hoodie (though the game also takes from Tag when it comes to Heihachi (which is the same as T3) and the Devil), which I also think that is the reason why all the Tekken characters are more better written in Project X Zone. Though in a side note, I actually would like to see your takes on the Guilty Gear series after hearing that you are also into the series since it is one of my favorite fighting game series.
@Tekkentacles5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I've already said what I can say about Jin. We are the same in a sense that Bloodline gave me a fresh perspective on his character. I'm a big fan of Guilty Gear back in the 2000s but sorta fell out of the fanbase in the 2010s up to Strive. That being said, my favorite fighting game character ever is Ky Kiske, and I felt that he's one of the best representation of a Christian in Japanese fiction. He is such a rich character with an interesting development (not without my gripes). I'm personally do not prefer the happy ending of Strive. I would have preferred Ky Kiske to have consequences for his choice to love a Gear, but Daisuke wanted that so I'll accept it.
@MetaKnuxXbeats5 ай бұрын
@@Tekkentacles personally, I like the happy ending Ky and Dizzy have. Ky is a character that I think went through a lot, from his world view being shattered by Justice, to being a complete wreck between the events of XX and 2 Overture when Dizzy was in a magic bind to prevent her from dying and having his son pretty much being raised by his brash rival, causing him and his son, Sin, to have a rift in there family relationship, which is probably an emotional blow to him, and he also had to deal with the Conclave when he tried to make a world where both humanity and gears can coexist and would end up getting shot in the back by one of the members in Xrd SIGN (though to be fair, he did wake back up, surviving and reveal to be a half gear, killing one of the members of the Conclave but it was a pretty cool moment) and he did help out Sol and the rest through out the Xrd series to take down the imperial force of Ariels so I think he earned his happy ending with Dizzy but that’s what I think. Though I will admit, Guilty Gear is not a perfect series with its story, it can be messy, I will admit, but man, you can tell Daisuke really cares for his characters and world.
@Tekkentacles5 ай бұрын
@MetaKnuxXbeats glad to find another Ky Kiske appreciator. I don't doubt Ky Kiske earned his happy ending, my problem is how it pole vaults over the world building. People hated Gears for over 100 years it won't be easy to just accept a queen who is one. So overall, I'm fine with a happy ending, just that I prefer it to have extra steps. I probably would have added consequences first before Ky steps down to fade in obscurity but live happily ever after. My other gripe is how Sin is supposed to be the Gear version of Ky, but they gave Ky a Dragon Install because its cool. I wish Ky remained "regular" because that has always been his appeal to me. But these are just minor stuff that are still overall OK with me. I felt Sin could have been much more, but they kinda stuck with him as a himbo comic relief with a good heart. Maybe if there are more GG we could have a more mature Sin as a protagonist.
@MetaKnuxXbeats5 ай бұрын
@@Tekkentacles I can understand those grips. Somewhat makes you wonder at times but at the sometime, I think it is because of Dizzy helping the public during that Xrd Revelator final battle that made the public realized “of hey, maybe all gears aren’t so bad” but I can see why people might see that as kind of a cope out. Personally, I am fine with it as it is genuinely sweet to see Dizzy finally accepted after all the pain she went through. Though I will agree that maybe it would be better to give Sin the Dragon Install instead of Ky since Sin is ment to be a mix of both Sol and Ky since he is the son of Ky but was raised by Sol. Pretty much the duality of humanity and the gears, so yea, I can completely understand that grip.

As someone who has always been drawn to Jin more than any other Character in fiction. Jin should've always been a hero but in a way similar to Guts where he ends up as hero but he us terrifing, powerful and sadistic untill he finally comes to a moment of clarity but we didn't get that precisely even in 8.

You make a an acurate point! Back in the 1st grade, I myself use look up to Jin Kazama as a promised warrior as I also use to look up to Ryu from Street Fighter series. If you know Street fighter of characters such Ryu, Ken, Guile, Cammy, and even Chun Li of course. Yet, I can still feel your compassion towards Jin as Tekken character in games.😢💔😥😭

I grew up with Street Fighter too ❤ but I wasn't as attached to it as Tekken. I love the Street Fighter movie in the 90s though, its such a classic.

I really don't think Jin was ever meant to be any better than his family, Jin ain't a saint, FAR FROM IT. He's a "the ends justifies the means" kind of character, kinda like Obito from Naruto, an anti-hero at best, a complete asshole at worst, and that moral grayness is what makes these characters interesting. I certainly wouldn't have liked Jin as much as i do if he wasn't kinda fucked in the head.
@Tekkentacles11 ай бұрын
Harada stated he always wanted Jin to be a villain, it's the unnamed Tekken team members who wanted to keep him a gray character. Harada had his way in Tekken 6. Jin was never a saint or an actual hero, he's more of a tragic character in Tekken 3-5. He wasn't saving people or doing good, only taking revenge for his mother's death and escaping his demons. It's only Tekken 6 where there was a shift to him, causing deaths people for a greater good. Like it or not, it was undeniable there wasn't enough time or care given to that sudden change.
@teriosshadow179 ай бұрын
I never saw Jin as righteous hero even as a kid, but more as a troubled young man, dealing with his cursed family. But he was the closest to break free from the cycle of his cursed family only for Tekken 6 throw that out of the window. I mean he had chance to kill off Heihachi and Kazuya for good, but didn't because of the vision of his mother and he chose to walk away from violence. How he goes from that to freaking Hitler in span of few months is beyond me.
