The AIS tested them over a mix of climbing and descending and found that areo socks give you 2.5 Watts. Considering I ride at around 200 Watts, this hardly makes any difference so it is really a matter of taste. If you are racing, then sure, but for the average rider they aren’t worth it.

2 days ago this was on sale on bikeinn, Large size and S-M both available. S$607 (usd 449). A bit expensive but the thing that prevented me from pulling the trigger is both the price and that i could not really find a clear front visor, which i believe the (big) visor being a significant component in helping this achieve the low drag. 1 day later the Large size went OOS and 2 days later the S-M also went OOS. I'll just settle for my Met drone which i managed to get the 2024 UAE Team emirates colourway and comes with clear visor, still "cool" enough for my riding type (solo, duathlons, training etc, early mornings and night riding so not much sun, if any at all). Also the Spiuk Ardea TT helmet which has a clear visor too.

Your testing of the Rudy Project WingDream aero helmet is very helpful. One thing that I have struggled with about aero helmets is adequate wind blockage during long > 3 hr ride for an Ironman. The wind commonly causes blurred vision in my eye 2 - 3 hrs into long rides and races. The best solution that I have found is ditching the aero visor and using the biggest sunglasses that I can find. Most certainly I am losing some aerodynamic advantage of the helmet but I've found it better to be able to see what's in front of me than a few watts. Am I the only one with this dilemma? It would be nice to hear your testers address the visor in this regard.

The original saddle position is not necessarily bad. Not everyone pedals the same way. Some people put most of their muscle contraction at the extended position which can be more powerful than starting the contraction at the beginning of the stroke with the knee bent at its maximum and with the muscles at their weakest position.

What genius thinks a BLACK helmet is a good idea for a helmet that is already hot because of minimal air flow. {SMH}
@daniellagrimaldi2 ай бұрын
Wrong.....the color do not play any roll....there is a venturi effect that keeps the air moving at great speed inside...also you have an inch thick of polyurethane in between the fast air moving outside and the air moving by venturi inside....I participated in the design...only in mountain bike where speeds are minimal the color plays a roll...you guys should not treat people who spend countless hours working on physics as "stoopeed".
@joemoya97432 ай бұрын
@@daniellagrimaldi Major issues with your reply: First, the basics: 1) The impact of heat is based on transfer of energy from object a to object b. In other words, heat is a transfer of energy. Less transfer, more energy absorbed/kept. And, vice versa. 2) Venturi Effect, is a change in velocity of a fluid or gas. The increased speed of air causes a decrease in pressure and this decreases pressure resulting in a drop in temperature. Second, using these principals, this is the explanation why black helmet would not be the best color. 1) White color absorbs LESS energy/heat. Black color absorbs MORE energy/heat. So, you have a higher ambient temperature surrounding the surface for the black color. This is why a black surface will melt ice faster. For example, if you have a 25C black color you might have a 22c white temperature. So you have a higher initial ambient temperature. 2) Passive cooling using the Venturi effect for both colors is the same and would result in the same capacity to create a lower temperature. Lets assume that drop is 2c for both. So, for example, the higher black temperature 25c would drop to 23c while the white at 22c would go to 20c. The net results is the black color will always be hotter because it absorbs more energy. The only way this can change is if the black object/helmet had different qualities and design to compensate of more absorb energy caused by the dark color. HOWEVER, the helmets are insulated equally. And, the insulation prevents most of the heat transfer to the head. But, the ambient air inside the helmet will be warmer in a dark helmet. How much this effects the internal temperature of the helmet varies based on the how much air is trapped in "air pockets" within the helmet. It is conceivable that this could be offset by passive cooling with air flow. But, the key point is why start from a warmer ambient temperature with black in the first place when all you need is a white helmet to begin with. The reason they make black helmets is because they don't show dirt as easily and some people like dark colored helmets. But, there is no other justification.
@joemoya97432 ай бұрын
@@daniellagrimaldi Apparently someone didn't like my rebuttal... and deleted the detailed explanation of why the physics says differently. Or, perhaps I can't see the reply. At any rate, the short answer is this: Black helmets absorb more heat than light-colored ones, creating hotter internal air pockets. This means any cooling airflow starts at a HIGHER baseline temperature than in light-colored helmets. While insulation will block heat from reaching the head, it does not remove the fact that black helmets inherently start with hotter internal air pockets and limits the impact of the Venturi Effect. Black plastic is CHEAPER to make and buy. Black helmets show less dirt and some like darker colors. That is the limit of their value.

Anybody using Rudy helmets the last several years are used to the clasp system. After several uses it becomes quite instinctual. I also like because in cold swims where fingers dexterity becomes an issue @ T1, it just snaps together. The older clip systems led themselves to fumbling around at the wrong time. Very nice review, will be in my transition bag in ‘25.

The Aerohead Ultimate was used by several athletes in Paris who had access to the new Giro but chose it instead. It won a gold medal. The vented version sold to the public isn’t a top helmet anymore, but the Ultimate, no longer publicly available, is still relevant. We tested the TT5 in a previous video. It was overshadowed by the Kask Mistral (a difficult helmet to beat) and is really only good when your head is held in the perfect position.

No plans. That helmet is great when you keep your head in the perfect pain, but the moment you move it, it’s no good. It tests well in a tunnel, but rarely does it work in the real world. It’s an old design people had given up on because it wasn’t fast for this reason. It only came back because I’d the Huub track guys (one of whom was my client) used them for pursuit. For a short event like that, it can be quite good.
