You didn't see much along the river and north of Garrison. The Fort Smith National Park (Judge Parker's courthouse) is just south. This is where Fort Smith Started. Fort Smith museum also there. You missed most of the city's history only going where you went. East of the city is Fort Chaffee and has much history including the barber shop where Elvis got his hair cut as he was inducted into the Army.

From reading books about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her daughter Rose Wilder Lane it is my understanding that Rose first left home to go live with her aunt Eliza Jane (Almanzo’s sister) in Louisiana to attend high school as there was no high school near her family’s home at the time. If I remember correctly Rose was her high school class valedictorian. I understand that one of the first jobs she had when she completed her education was working as a telegraph operator.

I still think Mark was a major player in this band. I don't know what happened but he should be included he was part of there success.

I found out my first time there,better to stay on the island. We stayed in a very old and never updated fishermans rental duplex. Did not sleep well at all. Had a hard time finding a nice place to eat in town. Drove over to the next bigger town. Staying on the Island next time,with more restaraunts and fun things to do. Never go here without renting golf cart for the day.

We were so disappointed walking around town,a lot of empty and rundown storefronts. I would have to say to anyone wanting to come there,dont bother. Head on over to Nashville and Columbus instead.
