Wonderful video, huge kudos to all involved...shame about the narrator insisting on pronouncing every letter of every word, quite excruciating!

Ever since I first learned about Tornado I've been fascinated by it. The idea of building a brand new, modern steam train is an incredible feat of engineering and to see Tornado top the ton is amazing for me, never mind the people who've been involved in it's design, construction and operation. It feels appropriate that the newest Steam train in the UK should also be the fastest. I truly hope Tornado is a watershed moment; we CAN build brand new steam trains, so let's have more (I know the A1 Trust are doing just that) and get them certified for public line running so the locomotives from the last era of Steam can last that much longer.

And the first revenue run at 90mph, it dropped part of the centre motion onto the track. 90mph hasn't been mentioned again.

Several of these Peppercorns ended their days at Alfred Draper's Neptune Street, Hull breakers yard. None were saved, as we know, hence this new build. Nice to see....

I was on the last hst on the east coast main line and we hit 127 mph, but you forget the record breaking machines that went before. Locomotives that set the bench mark of speed . There legacy is still important. These machines pushed what was possible to the limit . And tornado is a majestic example of one of those machines .

there was a time where these fire breathing monsters could refill their water tanks without stopping, the british rail system had "water troughs" set up along the line that consisted of a narrow channel between the rails miles long, and full of water. The locomotive crew would drop a water scoop from beneath the locomotive down into the trough, and the water tank would be "rammed" full with water from the trough through the scoop, filling would take seconds.

You can see that stuck up twit reading the names of the people he killed is detached from responsibility, not an appealing look of sorrow or deeper explanation, scared to look at the camera, reading his lawyers note, and going through the requisite motions and anticipation of getting the hell out of there.

Remember talking to a guy who had been a fireman on the GWR when they still had steam. He described how depending on the driver you would fire the engine for a hill, the worst ones he described as "head down ass up and shovel like F**k." Great seelng these lovely locos doing what they were made for.

I spent many happy hours at Potters Bar in the 50's & 60's watching these fantastic Pacifics roar through every 5 or 10 minutes especially on a Summer Saturday. So glad we have some preserved.

Steam truly stretching legs, with their running gear flying around and incredible passe is enough to stir the emotions to make a man cry. I hope one day here in north America may see one of our preserved steam legends do a similar speed achievement!
