Wow. I was removing my dining room carpet and when pulling it out of the carpet gripper, between the room and the cupboard, I noticed the vinyl tiles from the cupboard looked a little broken underneath, and I immediately freaked out because I had to use a little strength to pull carpet up. As soon as I saw it I put tape over it and ran away out of the room.

You can skip 8 mins of the video and watch the removal, I'd use more water although the asbestos is more in the material so I don't think the fibers would be floating around.

You really shouldnt wear a respirator with a beard. It can affect with the proper seal of the mask. (I have been in the safety field for years and have spent years performing respirator training and fit testing).

From the NYC government website “Workers who have been exposed to asbestos for many years are most at risk for asbestos-related illnesses. Construction, insulation, and shipyard workers who have installed, disturbed or removed asbestos without proper protection are especially at risk. Smokers who are exposed to asbestos have a much greater risk of developing asbestos-related diseases. Developing an asbestos-related illness after being exposed for a short time - even at high levels - is very unlikely.”

To those concerned about safety, you would be hard pressed to find anyone that suffered from minimal exposure doing their own home remodeling. Asbestos problems are from long term exposure. Do search, you will not find a single case of a homeowner experiencing a issue. I do agree it never hurts to do as much as possible to reduce the risk of breathing it but at the same time it is not "killing" someone, lol.

The problem is not if you don't care about your own safety, you may not get sick but the asbestos fibers will still be there. someone else can die. it is a fiber and will get in the walls floors and everything else uncovered. They are doing everything wrong and what if they were to sell or rent the house to someone who dies from their mistakes?

Those fibers could literally circulate in your hair, the whole area needs to be closed and everyone there has to have suits and masks. 1. You could get a massive fine for disturbing asbestos, you can even go to jail 2. 70% of the people in this video have a 52% of getting asbestos related diseases. You didnt disturb alot. But it is probably friable soon

Do not flood wood floors with any liquid. Do small areas at a time. They are lucky if they didn't cause moisture damage and buckling...

I love how they laughed about being unsafe. My dad died from mesothelioma caused by asbestos. So did a lot of people he worked with. This stuff is not a joke. It will kill you. And not in a peaceful way.

get the glue also. There is a lot of that stuff in the glues. You will not die from a non occupational exposure to this stuff, unless you smoke 4 packs of cigarettes a day! Keep it wet, and dig away.

I had a similar project to remove asbestos tile adhesive that covered vintage tiles. I used a product called SoyGel which actually breaks down the adhesive and turns it into a water soluble tar-like substance. It encapsulates the asbestos for safe removal. It's made out of soy beans and does not have a caustic odor. Check them out. www.franmar.com/consumer-products/product/SoyGelSpray They also make a product called Bean-e-doo to remove asbestos adhesive from concrete surfaces. www.franmar.com/consumer-products/mastic

Low levels of asbestos that present little, if any, risk to your health can be detected in almost any air sample. For example, 10 fibers are typically present in a cubic meter (fibers/m3) of outdoor air in rural areas. (A cubic meter is about the amount of air that you breathe in 1 hour.) Health professionals often report the number of fibers in a milliliter (mL) (equivalent to a cubic centimeter [cm3]) of air rather than in a cubic meter of air. Since there are one million cm3 (or one million mL) in a cubic meter, there typically would be 0.00001 fibers/mL of asbestos in air in rural areas. Typical levels found in cities are about 10-fold higher.
