I just saw Lani Hall and Herb Alpert in concert. Lani is now 78. She was 37 when she sang this song. Time sure goes by fast. She is still doing concerts and singing with her husband Herb Alpert. He is 89 is going strong! It was a good show. What a history they both have.

Never Say Never Again wasn't actually an official James Bond film, it wasn't made under license. It is however a great film and really feels like Bond movie with Sean Connery. I know a lot of people don't like the theme song but I think it's one of the best "007" songs and sounds great when it's played in the film intro.

I couldn’t agree more. The Phyllis Hyman version was beautiful. Lani Hall’s version is honestly one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Her voice is so shrill, and that fluttering vibrato… It sounds like 70’s porno music.

I love Shirley Bassey, but I have to say I prefer Dionne Warwick’s rendition. Bassey oversells it a bit. That approach worked great on “Goldfinger” but works less well here. Warwick lets the playfulness of the lyrics unfold in a less forced manner. Her gentler sound also better suits the song’s bridge. The longer instrumental intro on Warwick’s version comes off better as well. Finally, I find the odd way Bassey pronounces “bang bang” very off putting. My favorite Bassey Bond theme is “Moonraker,” an underrated gem, beautifully sung with impressive breath control.
