Hello, I have just gone out to the living room to check this for you. I can guarantee you the BDP-S590 plays SACD natively. I have another older Sony Blu-Ray player that does too. One of my discs is non-hybrid. This player plays it but when I insert it into my CD transport it isn't detected, so this confirms the SACD support. Just note, when you use a Blu-Ray player like these, it'll convert the audio to PCM and output that way. If you want to output DSD to an external DAC you'll need something with an I2S connection or one of those fancier ones. You can't use coaxial or optical TOSLINK, S/PDIF etc. as they don't support encryption so the players will only output in PCM format on those connections.

@ Thank you so much! Part of the mystery solved. I looked at my Onkyo receiver and it has only analog multi channel input. And the Sony Blu-ray has no multichannel analog out. But I ordered Love Trip anyway as the SACD version cost pretty much the same as the CD version when importing. I do have a newer receiver with HDMI inputs in the garage, but I’ll have to research tomorrow if it has DSD over HDMI. I’ll get it to work someday somehow, and besides, I have your tutorial on how to rip it! That will be cool to mess with. I’ll sub to learn more. Thanks again.

@@BrianSu The receiver I got in my garage has DSD over HDMI so I think i'll be good if it syncs up properly. I only paid $15 for this Insignia NS-R5101AHD-A (which seems to be a Best Buy version of the Onkyo TX-SR308) at a second hand store a few years back. It seems as if it was fate! Now the 30 day wait for the SACD to arrive. I have learned a lot in a short time thanks to your video and the information in your reply. Cheers!

Yes it does because the eject mechanism has to retract the tape etc. It's just like a VHS tape :)
