I haven't celebrated Christmas for the last two years because of a mutual but tragic breakup... This time of year used to be so much fun, and now I can't stand it; but I appreciate the calm reminder that I am probably not alone with how I am feeling around this time of year. Happy Holidays to you! Love your voice 🥰☕

This book, Journey to the East, by Hermann Hesse, and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, by Shunryu Suzuki, are three books of which I always keep extra copies, and gift to anyone important to me, and whom I think need them. They have had formative impacts on the person I became, and are literary and spiritual treasures. Thank you so much for this reading. It's a singular experience to hear a treasure read by a treasure. I hope you are well.

Wow, a truly impressive list. This book definitely hits home for me too. I think I never finished the recordings and it's such a shame. I'll come back to it and finish ❤️

@@TomebyTomeASMR I would LOVE the chance to revisit the end of this story with you. It's just such a wonderful work... ...and, now, of course, I have to ask-- If you always had a copy on hand of one book of your choice any time you *knew* the person you were talking to needed to hear what it had to say, what book would it be?
@TomebyTomeASMR11 күн бұрын
@TherionScorn Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. It's a bit out of context because it's the sixth book in a series, but the first in the series, Wizard's First Rule, was in this giveaway bin as I was literally leaving the military and getting on a plane. I read it in one night and voraciously devoured the rest; some amazing, some not. Faith of the Fallen in particular struck me at such a pivotal time in my life that its message connected with my soul. Travels by Michael Crichton made an immense impression on me and I've actually given my copy away to someone who was struggling before! Thank you for giving me this chance to reflect ❤️❤️

@@TomebyTomeASMR Oh, fun, another layer of synchronicity-- about the time that you and I started our conversation on The Alchemist, I was introducing yet another friend on Facebook to Richard Cypher, and Goodkind's propensity to write characters so overpowered that the only narrative foil available is to have said characters de-powered and kidnapped repeatedly; also, I'd have to say that "some amazing, some not" is about the perfect description I've heard yet for the Sword of Truth series. I got as far as Pillars of Creation, myself. Are you still following the series?
@TomebyTomeASMR10 күн бұрын
@TherionScorn I stopped after Pillars of Creation too! And wow! The odds are insane. I have Chainfire and the Confessor spinoffs, but the series lost the magic for me, ironically haha

I am sure I had to have seen previous iterations of your "Daily Calm" series while scrolling through your extensive library of deliciously macabre and soothing content, but until tonight, was not more than passively aware of its presence here... Which is a travesty, as I first started seeking ASMR content due to its recently discovered beneficial effect on my clinical insomnia, and I should have been keenly aware of just how magical your voice would be when when applied to relaxation / mindfulness exercises. This is... intensely effective, nearly to the point of hypnosis bottled into a shockingly minute span of time. I am fairly sure that a full-length episode could easily approach the psychological threshold of ego-death. Your voice deserves to be classed as a controlled substance.

@@TomebyTomeASMR rain is nice. I think it is just crackly stuff like fires that come through the phone speakers more like static. I wonder if you'd get more listeners if you posted no sound effect versions, though, you are legible enough to be in the same class as HorrorBabble and Tony Walker Ghost Stories. I listen to both your's and HorrorBabble's Funghi From Yuggoth at points because the emphasis makes different lines shine. Just because your voice is good for ASMR doesn't mean you shouldn't tag yourself as narration / audiobook as well. The clarity is up there. Ian from HorrorBabble is an excellent sound designer but he's stripped out the effects over the years and Tony stopped doing American accents (his own accent is great why waste it!). When they do put in effects it is a door slamming once in time with the story in their "dramatic recordings" which are more like radio plays. Totally not worth the effort except when they really like a short story and want to do silly voices :) I don't think you should bother! ...aaaanyway you can tell I just had a huge coffee! If it is no trouble to bung up the clean reads going forward and maybe tag them as narration I think it'll get you a wider audience. I used to avoid ASMR as some of them really aren't legible but you are a great narrator, too :) Get both audiences, steal underpants, profit!

If you could upload a version without the fire noises I'd appreciate it. You are a great reader no need to hide your voice. It is hard to find a non -AI reading of The Lamp of Alhazred, most of Derleth's "post humours collaborations" are ... worse than fan fiction and we have a lot of Lovecraft fiction worth reading so narrators tend to miss it. Very glad you picked it up, thank you!
