It was a fun vid to watch! Im watching AX vlogs to relive the magic and to check out things that I missed from my first time there. I’m not familiar with Jubyphonic but watching this, I realized I saw her during the Danmachi panel. She introduced herself by her name so I didn’t realize she was a KZbinr too 😅 tbh I sat in the danmachi panel bc of the panel right after it but she seems really sweet. I was there for 4 days but I feel like there was a bunch of stuff I didn’t explore fully.

Thank you for watching, paperfay! It was honestly thanks to my wife that I noticed. She's a huge fan of her covers! My wife approached her and Jubyphonic gave her a custom sticker which was very sweet. She's very down-to-earth!

Maybe you also work from home but absolutely hate it! There's always pros and cons to everything such as how isolating it can be. Or if you don't work from home because maybe it's just not your thing, tell me how so!

Nostalgia can't hold gaming back unless it stifles creativity altogether, which it does not. In fact it has at times even been a boon to gaming, especially long-dormant franchises. For example, Crash Bandicoot 4 would never have existed if N. Sane Trilogy and CTR Nitro Fueled never happened. Simply making new games with older gameplay or even remaking older games is objectively a good thing, as it means that there is even more variety in this hobby to choose from. As for nostalgia holding a player back... I think that's a sillier insinuation. A person should not be required to keep up with modern gaming You're not suddenly no longer a gamer if the newer games no longer interest you or hold any value to you. If you play games, you are a gamer. Simple as that. And only the individual in question can decide if they should branch out of their comfort zone or stick to the old. Yes, they may be missing out on new experiences, but if they have no real desire to enjoy new experiences and are perfectly content to revisit the older ones, then who is anyone to tell them they are causing or have a problem? Revisiting older games has a negative chance to replace making new games because for every successful Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, there will always be an Elden Ring or Tears of the Kingdom. But without revisiting older games, there would also be no Octopath Traveler or Kid Icarus Uprising.

You make a great point, @GameAW1, I can see that the same may go for indie developers taking inspiration from older titles. This influence in some way can push Triple A developers to take indie ideas and make it a Triple A game for example Returnal or really any rogue-like inspirations out there nowadays on the mainstream market.

I love to revisit/replay older generation console games. Checking the last save; remembering playing it “x” years ago brings back memories of other things that were going on when you first played it. Your older consoles are like little time machines to the past and replaying your favorite old games takes you back. We spend a lot of time with these games and the fondness doesn’t just disappear.

I'll never forget the moment I unboxed my N64 back in 1998. The whole world stopped in motion lol

I will share my thoughts towards nostalgia... I believe nostalgia is good in small doses, but there is such a thing as too much of it. I think we should all be aware of when we're consuming too much of the media we grew up with. I also think nostalgia can be used as a coping mechanism, like if you're currently feeling stressed, anxious, or sad (not depressed because that mental illness robs your joy from anything), you'd probably want to go back to a bygone time temporarily. That is completely fine by me, but you cannot stay in the past forever because you have a window of opportunity next to you and if you stay in this little personal bubble you created for yourself, you will miss out on the many things you could've done in the present day if you didn't lock yourself in the past. You have a bright future ahead of you, so please don't waste your opportunity because I believe that it's worth taking the risk. You should definitely keep moving forward instead of sitting on the same spot because you're afraid to step out of your comfort zone (which in this case is your childhood). Again, it is fine to relive your childhood and teenagerhood, but I don't want you to lay on the same carpet for the rest of your life because at some point, you need to get up and move forward. This is just my view on the matter. You don't need to agree with me if you don't want to, and I don't need to adapt your opinion if I don't want to. If I want to stick to my opinion then that is perfectly fine, and if you want to stick to your own opinion, then that is completely okay!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts @FunnyCatMan ! I definitely resonate with you. Nostalgia, without a doubt, has been used as a coping mechanism for me and I agree with you that it must be handled responsibly. The way I look at it is that it's nice to wear that blindfold and reminisce the simpler times, but wear that blindfold for too long and you lose sight of what's in front of you!

How do you handle nostalgia? Do you use it to fuel your creativity or does it come off more so as baggage to carry around with you?

A bit of both, really. With fanfiction it helps fuel positive rewriting of things, but it also makes me overly attached to particular stories.

@EthanKironus8067 I didn't quite think about it like that! About how fanfictions can be used as a way of altering a less favorable, potentially bad ending to a story, into a good ending for example. That act would be putting your attachment with something into good return value for yourself while acknowledging the weight it carries from going to such length in the first place. Very interesting, Ethan 👍

Great video and great topic. Although I’m not a teenager nor I’m into video games but I do understand how playing video games would help you with your anxiety and depression through these rough times. Keep these videos coming, I’m sure it’ll help a lot of people that will have similar interests.

Definitely one of the key problems with youth nowadays, validation has always been a problem but socialization correlating with video games has definitely made it rear an uglier head. Great vid🙏

Thanks for sharing! Yeah in some way it's a blessing that behavior in the virtual space translating to behavior in the real world helps you get a better picture of the said person if you ever meet them in person LOL it's doing your homework ahead of time 😆
