Really wondering where this will go. From what I remember, the series is still following the real timeline (maybe with the exception of some small details; European medieval history is not exactly my field of expertise), so I'm quite curious what exactly will happen differently. Hope this project will thrive.

Thank you for your support! Currently we have not reached the Point of Divergence yet, so you are correct we are following our own timeline very closely after a LOT of research. There are blank spots which we fill out with things that realistically happened or expand on things that are hinted: For example we know exactly when the tourney happened and who signed on and we know the exact date Baldwin takes the cross. But here are some examples of things that we added without 100% certainty #1 The entire trip to Paris in Christmas (But come on do you really think Theobald would start this without going to his king? He was on the king's council! ) #2 We don't know if Blanche or even Theobald was in Brugge in person, but the timing of Baldwin taking the cross coincides with Marie giving birth to baby Joan, Theobald's niece, so its safe to assume he went there #3 Obviously we dont know what was said at any given moment, like the dialog in this scene, but after studying this period for nearly a decade I have a pretty good understanding of what logistical issues would be called into question On top of all of this realism the show also has to have a decent pace and be interesting, all of which is really hard to do. Once again thank you for your support :)

Amazing story I love how you made france accent and character stand out with own personality I learned more historical figures I will say I am looking forward to see al-Adil he become sultan 17 February 1200 he proved be skilled diplomat sadly he died at battle against crushed in 1217 on Wikipedia Adil was totally unprepared for this assault and despite being seventy-two years of age he hurriedly took his forces into Palestine to engage with them. The campaigns in Palestine did not bring him any notable success however, and in August 1218 (Jumada 1 615) he received the shocking news that a second Crusader force had landed in Egypt and were attacking Damietta. He fell ill and died while on campaign (August 1218) and was succeeded by his son Malik Al-Kamil I am looking forward to how fourth Crusade happened in this timeline

Why is Theobald against robbing Jews?.
@Altremer
@Altremer Ай бұрын
Great question! Antisemitism was a big thing during the middle ages, but it is actually around this time, especially under Philip II and Louis the Saint when it ramps up a lot. Louis is actually the first one to introduce the yellow star as a way to distinguish Jewish citizens from the rest. Theobald's father however, who picked up Champagne and made it into a prosperous hub of trade and culture had a very different attitude, based on what we know from Theobald it's very likely that he would have followed these reforms

Had the Crusades succeeded, the Levant (and possibly parts of Egypt as well) would likely look like a giant version of Malta today, regions dominated by the Latin Church, historically governed by Crusader knights (Malta was governed by the Knights Hospitalier for centuries), that nevertheless speak Semitic languages as their vernacular (the Maltese language is a Semitic language related to Arabic).

Part of the goal of this series is to dissect the black/white good/bad clear cut narratives where one side utterly destroys the other. Most crusaders, including the fourth and especially the first had so many different factions with different goals and as the story expands it will be interesting to see how it all develops. That being said you bring up some very interesting points

@@Altremer The First Crusade were certainly seen as rowdy barbarians by Constantinople and it came about almost by accident. The Emperor in Constantinople just sent a message to the Pope in hope of reinforcements to fight the Turks. Instead, they raised a massive Crusade that successfully re-captured the entire Levant for the first time in over four centuries! Will the Eastern Empire still feature somewhat in this alternate timeline?

I wonder if Hungary will contribute to the effort of the crusade. Just curious because for example records of millitary build up in Hungary happend around the 4th crusade due to the increasing threat of the muslims due to the weakening byzantine empire and the Kingdom felt more at risk due to the only buffer between it and the muslims was an empire hanging onto dear life. However it would be intresting to see how Hungarian interactions with the crusader force would play out as the Venitians did have their eyes on Zara controlled by Hungary at the time since 1186 and between the years of 1203-4, the Kingdom was torn by a civil war between the ruleing king Emeric and his younger brother Andrew II. Intrestingly enough Pope Innocent III urged Andrew to lead a crusade to the Holy Land and his father King Béla III willed property and money to Andrew obliging him to lead a crusade to the Holy Land. But being the good son that he was, Andrew waisted the inheritance by conspiracy against Emeric with the help of John, Abbot of Pannonhalma, Boleslaus, Bishop of Vác, and many other prelates and lords. Even with the threat of excommunication by the Pope if he did not go, the guy just said "NUH UHH". When he was exposed he fled into exile and would continue to cause issues in hungary until he became king in 1205 a year after the 4th Crusade. He would partake in the 5th to do good on the vow to go on a crusade in 1217-18 which went as good as any other crusade after the first crusade which subsequently made him complain to the new Pope - Pope Honorius - and due to the massive debt because of his crusade, he imposed extraordinarily high taxes and debase coinage which would later spirle into the Golden Bull of 1222. So I guess my point here would be is in this alternative 4th Crusade, it would be intresting to see Andrew, son of King Béla III with some convincing, stop his efforts for the throne of Hungary and acctually do good on his obligation to join the crusade since the Venitian fleet will be passing by Hungary and Andrew would have the means to bolster the Crusaders strengths. :)
@Altremer
@Altremer Ай бұрын
I believe what you refer to in particular is Andrew's crusade which was a MASSIVE undertaking. Should the crusade keep its corse and not mess around with Zara this really does make things very interesting. When people consider the impact of the 4th crusade they usually think of the consequences for the Levant and the Byzantines. But what about Hungary and Bulgaria? Two minor powers later on, but regional superpowers at the time> What about the war with England? But most importantly: What about the Albigensian crusade? Fun fact, in researching this series I found out that a HUGE amount of the crusaders who pledged to go to the Holy Land actually end up in the Albigensian crusade, should the organization that we see here happen as it was intended to, southern france would have looked very differently. Thank you for your great comment!
@warlordaguszto5326
@warlordaguszto5326 Ай бұрын
@@Altremer Thank you for taking the time to read my comment and I learnt something new today regarding the Albigensian Crusade which I will read into to expand my knowledge 😀. Also I would like to point out, IF Andrew did go on the 4th Crusade and did not attempt to kick his brother of the throne, the Hungarian treasurey would not be depleted due to Andrew not using crown money and resources for his Crusade and not forcing Emric to waste resources on Andrew, Hungarian succession would continue on with Ladislaus III as he not would flee and die in Vienna creating 2 Árpád branches. The combination of these 2 factors could mean no Golden Bull of 1222 allowing the Crown to continue gaining power and centralising the realm sooner than Béla IV and be stronger than IRL. It could also prevent the Árpád house From going extinct due to the 2 branches existing as i mentioned before. Point being Hungary in a timeline where Andrew joins the 4th Crusade could mean a future stronger Hungary able to actively push the muslims back away from Europe and potentially be able to prevent getting overrun by the Mongols due to their stronger position. Alright I'll stop boring you with hypothetical's I love the series so keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next episode :D Edit: I just realised I kinda repeated myself so, sorry if u read the paragraph. It just the guys actions here changes a bunch of things for Hungary around this time and I'm just hyped up of what's gonna happen in the Adriatic sea.
