I love the Tomcat too. As well as Capt. Snort Snodgrass, but I think the F-14 and its variants were kinda underpowered. Especially the A model. It was just too big a fighter in my opinion with limited maneuverability. Forget Top Gun. Unless Snort was flying, an F-15 or F-16 could easily have taken it. The Navy has always done the best with what they have been given. Don't get me started on the Marines.

So are these equipped with the TF-30s or GE-110s?

My former air base with VF-41 along side VF-84 and training squadron VF-101... didn't have airshows at that time.... bummer. Would have been out at see anyway...oh well....I miss that bird. Good to see it finally received an upgrade on the old TF-30 engine...🤳😎

Absolutely nothing compares to the crisp whistling inbound followed by the thunder and concussion in your chest and head. Seeing a short roll vertical takeoff or a minimum radius turn right in front of you. Man, I miss the Point Mugu air shows of the 90s…
@truckinfool35505 ай бұрын
I saw quite a few So Cal shows in the 80s and 90s, but Mugu was always the most intimate, crowd was right next to the flight line. From the vertical takeoff, to the high speed pass, that crazy min radius turn, and dropping live ordnance. Just awesome, start to finish. The F-14 demo was absolutely always the highlight for me.

Thank you @Burner IRST. I worked in AIMD Jet Shop as a reference to the audience. I was asked in the Topgun Maverick movie what was the hose in the scene. I explained the details of the huffer, blah blah, so I did a search trying to find an example and here it was and then all of the sudden at 8:21 a truck drives across. SPOILER!!! Something like watching TV and some clown walks in front and you miss the whole thing.

Same. I worked on F-15s when I joined the Air Force and it is dear to me. But there’s no denying that the Tomcat is a rad jet. One of the baddest ever.
