Light was the hero. Just because a few innocent people died means nothing. It is seen in war all the time, acceptable losses. Light was the hero. The NPA, L, SPK, Mello were the villians of the story and they won. Only anime I have seen in which the villians win in the end.

definitely one of the best shows. i think he did shoot angelo the look on his face at the end before we here the shot get fired gives it away. also i think he saw angelo was depressed and didnt have much to live for anymore and he wanted to put him out of his misery it was done not for vengeance but for compassion(?)

HOT TAKE/THEORY: Light is acting the whole time he did not have the death note. (He still does not have his memories on Death Note but I don't think he is a passionate and light hearted)

I did understand Light's original motivations, not the whole becoming God thing, but wanting to punish evil, but it's the moment with the FBI, and Misora that changed everything. I mean, sure I could reason that the cat and mouse game would have ended too soon if they didn't die and that wouldn't be all that interesting, and Light wouldn't have the infamy he does, but I still hated and wished for his downfall even if I didn't want it to happen too soon.

His downfall is very clearly his lack of emotional intelligence, he gets very petty when something touches his ego , which is what led him to be discovered within the japan region, his outburst before his death only reaffirms what was already evident , he was very intellectually capable of handling all that happened , only he as well as Walter White from breaking bad , fell short to their own pride

this is 2 year old video but idc i'll comment anyway wht i love about this anime is tht it didnt derail and forget it's objective cuz i can see someone writing a story about revenge and then switching it to some love story or some other bullshit completely forgetting its goal this story developed in so many ways but remained true to its narrative and objective which many stories failed for me

Such a dark yet beautiful theme revenge is needed in order to seek justice beyond just the surface but also is a cycle of pain too

i hate when shows don't have realistic characters that feel real, so i was surprised at how real all the characters felt, even though there was basically no time to develop the supporting cast.

I think light is neither evil nor good he is complicated because he wants world to be changed only with good people he killed 16 innocent people in the whole series and he killed uncountable criminals

Just finished this anime, it’s easily top 3 for me. I’m still in the honey moon phase so I’ll refrain from saying my favorite… but mafia movies are my favorite so this one was just amazing. Was on the edge of my seat every episode. Angelo was a monster. But they made him like that.

This was a very interesting analysis. Thanks for doing it. However i have to disagree with the notion that he has no emotional connection to others. Specificly his screw up in the hostage situation with his sister: I guess most people overlook the massive self-sabotage he commited there. He prevented the information of the kidnapping being leaked to the public, therefore makes it impossible to kill her without blowing his cover, effectivly blocking her death as an solution. Had he just kept quiet when the others tried to inform the police, kira could've learned of it by several means... so yeah, to me it looks like he cared for her.

I agree with you he definitely wouldn't be one of the most popular anime characters ever made if he wasn't a beautiful man. But when it comes to the manipulation he is capable of in the story, history is filled with stories of many famously ugly men whose pure charisma, intelligence, and aura left people spellbound and naturally attracted to them. Society gives a lot of leeway to ugly men with great qualities. If Light's character had been a woman, you'd sadly have been right on both points. Society doesn't care for women unless they're attractive no matter their gifts.

The way i see light's character is a person who has a big ego from all the success he achieved, And got bored knowing the path he was on would be really easy for him to get, there's no challenge for him to get to his goal so he became bored. Light saw the world as a rotten place, so when he got the "Death note" It gave him the chance to make the world "a better place" in his eyes. Light believed the death note would make him a god, that he was chosen to change the world. It only fueled his ego giving it a reason to exist, causing him to become Kira. Even without the death note, Light would still be bored, still believe the world is rotten, and still have an ego but it wouldn't be as obvious. (I don't know if he'd still be bored when he eventually joins L though)

I agree, I don’t personally believe that Nero shot Angelo in the end, but there’s equal evidence and explanations supporting each side. Maybe that question would’ve been answered in a second season if one had been able to be made, but I like the up-to-interpretation ending.

Light was actually good and it baffling to me people are willing to say he isnt he isnt just cuz the show says it in the end he did more good to the world than bad and you can see the worlds support to him ur dismissing other peoples points because apperantly light is attractive which a load of horse shit tbh and out of all the arguments i heard aganist him be8ng good this is definitely the weakest.

It's a great story but I actually do not support the view that "Revenge is a foolishness". Like, revenge may or may not help sometimes for sure. But I wasn't disappointed because 91 days did a thing with Angelo like, he lost his motives because he felt nothing, and I mean... I can understand why he didn't kill Nero. He could've had a little connection with him after their trip, so he didn't want to lose another kind of weighting people in his life (if ya know what I mean); that's fine, tho I would like to see another story end where Angelo is actually feels satisfied and stuff, completing his revenge. His character seemed to be like keeping his philosophy and stuff.

Light is a complex character which is reall difficult to write.. but the authors really succeeded at building it. Light doesn't fit in any profile, he's not a psychopath cause he truly cares for his family.. he's also not a sociopath, even Ryuk can't figure him out sometimes... He's a normal person but the way he tries to proves himself nd his intelligence even if it'll make him more suspicious is really off and confusing..We got to see many moments were L struggles to crack what Light is thinking... like what does he actually want or try to achieve? I think besides him sayin he wanna be god of new world bla bla.. nobody actually knows what's exactly on his mind. He's dark and his ideology isn't as obvious as it seems.. as it makes us all question what justice actually is. Just brilliant writing and incredible character indeed ❤

Sadly i can't share all of your thoughts of Bungo Stray Dogs at all. That the show is an overlooked gem is now known for 7 years - thats nothing new. Maybe just for people that got into it one month before. But the MAL score of 8.7 speaks a lot of how much the watchers like the show. You should keep it mind that it's NOT A SHOUNEN. It's a Seinen with much more mature content. Also, Dazai was the first character that was made even before Atsushi and they are officially both the main characters. So seeing him often next to Atsushi is just logical - and since he is the shows favorite also loved by the fans. You also have to keep in mind that you can't change a persons personality and their insecurities in just some month. There will forever be situations where your inner conflict is brought back - like when he was alone with Fukuchi. Dying alone is something REALISTIC in this situation. I love that this show doesn't have an overconfident shounen-similar character. Even Dazai has to deal with his personal problems. But yes, overall Atsushi should have had more developement in Season 4 and 5 overall. That's right. But some scenes from the manga of Atsushi and Aku were cut off as you maybe know. Nontheless, this season and show itlself is a masterpiece for me. I'm sorry for you that you can't enjoy it that much as others, but thats maybe your personal taste (or age?). The show hit's different if you understand more of the thematics of mental health and maybe was even affected yourself.

I just watched it, I don't know if Nero took the shot. But the final line "I just didn't want to kill you" is very poetic for Angelo's end. After all the reason why Nero didn't shoot Angelo in the first place was that very reason.
