What I love about living in Alameda is how little it has really changed. From watching this video I can still see the same buildings that were here over a hundred years ago. The city is much slower pace than the rest of the Bay Area.

I was at the Naval Air Station in 93/94! Great memories! Take the bus to Oakland then catch the B.A.R.T. to S.F. or Berkeley! Wish I could go back!

how great is this, and its like everyone in the comments couldve been my neighbor. i remember this video from when i was in the 5th grade or so and it shows the alameda i remember.. town is changing quite a bit especially recently. i miss the old alameda i grew up in, and i wish i had more time to enjoy it as an adult but so goes life, huh.

My grandparents settled in Alameda after the Oklahoma Dusbowl in the early 1900's. My grandfather was a shipbuilder welder in the estuary. My father was born in Alameda Hospital and graduated Alameda High School. Later on, my grandfather also graduated AHS by going to night school. I was also born in Alameda Hospital and graduated AHS in 1984. Go Hornets! ...I also went to one of the last double features at the Alameda Theater around 1982 before it was (temporarily) closed down. Very grateful for these memories and connections.

I remember brad Gillis, he played with Night Ranger if I remember right. Even played with Ozzy for a little while and played football for Alameda High. He used to play at a popular bar on Buena Vista by the boat ramps every now and then before Night Ranger I believe. I remember meeting him once when he was playing football and we used to get our hair cut by the same person. Mr. Fox who was an Alameda High assistant coach.

Alameda used to be inhabited by Indians who "caught fish with handmade nets." You mean they didn't get the nets from Walmart!?

14:43 where is that entrance at? Another thing that's special about that air base was the popular "We Can Do It" poster, a reference to picture taken of Naomi Parker, who was a young worker at the base in the beginning of the 1940s

They didn't mention that with the shell mounds were the bones of ancient Native American ancestors. They took the bones and ground them up to mix with concrete to pave Alameda. This should not be forgotten. For many years bones were found by homeowners digging. Where those bones went - who knows - probably trash. No respect for Natives. Alameda owes an apology to Native Americans for that and also for teaching Alameda schoolchildren that the Natives there were "a dirty people who spoke an ugly language" that quote comes directly from a schoolbook used in Will C Wood school. It was published by Alameda Historical Society. Shameful.
