Thank you The Chieftains for honoring with this beautiful song to “The Heroic Saint Patrick Battalion” the Irish men who fought on the Mexican side in the USA-Mexico War 1846-1848 We, the people from Mexico are very grateful with the San Patricios and very grateful with Ireland. Erin Go Bragh!! In Mexico we will forever remember and honor the brave and noble Irish San Patricios, who fought and paid with their lives against an unjust land grab that netted the U.S. The entire Southwest from Texas to California.

That song is about Irishmen who fought for Mexico against the Americans. We Irish seem to have been in all sorts of crazy places and ended up fighting some crazy fights.

It wasn't a crazy figth, sadly Mexico lost the war leading to an era of the white supremacy belief that we still live today as racism.But history cannot be change.Im from Monterrey the first city they dared to defended,we still remember the Saint Patrick's Battalion with deep appreciation and respect. Their descendants are all over the city.

The intervention of the Saint Patrick Battalion along the Mexican Army was not a crazy fight cause those Irish men heard their consciences and they were convinced about the unjust invasion and very convinced to fight against the Yankee tyranny. As I already said, We, the Mexican people are very grateful with the San Patricios and very grateful with Ireland
