Glad I've taken vanguards advice and had all retirement investments in their target date fund for the past 15 years. That constant drag on performance from the international allocation is super sweet.

My favorite morning show. Buying stock is easy but my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategie;s and the right stocks to buy ... I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

really like your videos, great insights. One critique point would be to include more visual overviews with general info like current stock price, your star rating, moat rating, graphs, YTD stock moves or similar. Would make it so much better

I really appreciate Morningstar's videos. It's good to hear reliable opinions from experts, especially since our feeds are screaming titles from amateur traders trying to get views by riding whatever current fad is (now it's Nvidia)

Susan & Christine, Thank you for your work. I appreciate your focus on holding periods for portions of portfolio. Not enough attention is given to risk vs holding period. Bond risk is less than Stocks in the short term. But Stock risk is LESS than Bonds in the long term. Thank you.

We've had a 4th bucket since I retired 13 years ago. It holds all of the dividend stocks which supplement our income. I view these stocks as if we had purchased a SPIA and so they are held outside of our normal asset allocation. Otherwise we have the 3 traditional buckets of Cash, Bonds and ETFs. We also view those stocks as inheritance for our heirs which we would not have with the purchase of a SPIA. We continue to add to this bucket generally with excess proceeds from RMDs to help keep pace with inflation.

"Last call" bucket makes sense to be in a Roth IRA, which is often the last funds we would withdraw and is the least complicated to inherit.

GREAT segment. Low BS, High information! Ed Slott is by far the best online/TV/KZbin speaker I've ever heard. If I could give him double likes, I would. Better by far than my Fidelity "advisor" and my Chase Private Client advisor. He points out all the things that typical "experts" either don't know or ignore. He addresses those of us who have lived and still live modestly and therefore don't need our RMDs. QCDs - an area MANY nonprofits fail to promote in their literature and on their websites. Now, I ONLY donate via QCDs. Even $100 donations go from my IRA. Fidelity makes it easy and keeps up with it through the year so I know how much I have still to take when the end of November is here. Also I had forgotten that withholding is considered equally paid through the year even when done at the very end, so I can stop worrying about quarterly tax deposits and just take it all out of my RMD in December. One more thing that I was reminded of. This December I'm selling the dog crap stocks both in and out of my IRA (does Tesla ring a bell?) I'll buy them back--maybe--after the wash sale time has elapsed, or maybe not.

Love this man, but some of his arguments don’t make sense to me: 1) His points about risk, institutions, and past performance are accounted for in the Net asset prices for international and US stocks. Us stocks are far more expensive whereas international companies are much cheaper if you consider things like PE ratios. Basically what I’m saying is that those things he refers to are “priced in” to global index funds. 2) He mentions that us companies earn their revenues abroad not just in the US. OK but so do international companies - they also earn much of their revenue from the US market (and others). So this point doesn’t make sense to me. 3) He mentions currency risk - well, many financial professionals and institutions argue a bit of currency diversification is actually a positive thing. PWL Capitol Fund manager Ben Felix has also cited research that suggests over the long haul hedging / unhedged currency strategies for indexes don’t seem to matter either way so this seems like a weaker point in my estimation. 4) Vanguard itself, Schwab, TRowePrice, etc - basically all the big players commit some portion of their holdings to international stocks. So Christine really is correct here in saying he represents an outlier. Maybe it’s a combo of love for his country and it is true net the US outperformed in his life time. But I tend to agree with Vanguard and Co that international is worth holding, just don’t hold as much of it as you do US assuming you’re a US citizen at least. Vanguard TDFs hold about 60/40 us to non us and schwabs holds about 2/3s us and 1/3 non us for example.
