I feel like “Invaders Must Die” by Prodigy does something similar at the start. Though instead of shifting the pattern, the song starts a beat early so the drums kick in 1 beat later than you’d expect

I’ve used this technique before but never thought of shifting halfway through a track. A great way to add variation whilst keeping the track cohesive. Can’t wait to try it now!

So formulaic though. Arranging depends on what you write. Making records with the music elements first before drums, you get a more natural piece of music. Then program the drums to what the groove / swing of what the music is doing, and arrange that way.

your fav producers do this too
@Rebel8MAC8 күн бұрын
The goal isnt too copy what the mastered track does, its to "get started" on CONCEPTUALLY understanding how, and what kind of, changes in sound contribute to the final result. Hence the closing eyes and doing it by feel.

@@Rebel8MAC But you’re not listening to your inner creative voice. You’ll still end up following someone else. It’s the total opposite of creativity.
@Rebel8MAC5 күн бұрын
@@jp20003 This strategy is for ppl that are just beginning and dont have all that familiarity. I am like this. Ive ALWAYS been a mathematical and logical person that has like 2% creative capabilities. I HAD to copy other works to understand the process in a practical sense. Once i learned that, THEN i was able to go back and then see what creativity an artist applied to it and bam 🤯 i was able to see the creativity. Some of us just have to develop these things practically before we can embrace the creative side. I literally didn't know i had a creative voice until a decade of constant trying to access that part of myself. After 15 years i have like 50% access to it.
@jp200035 күн бұрын
@@Rebel8MAC Yeah fair enough, i wasn’t looking at it from a beginner point of view, so apologies. I try and do my best to avoid at all costs copying anything. I always find when i just write with no rules or guides, the record comes out so much better.

Yes if you do it forever... it's a helpful tip to get started/for beginners. You could also just actively listen to your favourite tracks and write down what you like about them
