A thought on the Badasses expansion. At the start of a campaign, just choose the characters available and those are the ONLY available for the duration of the campaign, no substituting midcampaign. At least keeps the rescue missions important.

are there some sort of victory conditions or when does the campmaign end?

Money's been tight lately but I just saw this on Facebook marketplace for $10. I've been looking for an affordable game to play by myself or with my girlfriend for when we get burnt out on gloomhaven.

This game is heavy and intense enough to be satisfying, and short enough to easily finish in an hour. I only wish there would be more weapons options, or at least more pulse rifles--my aliens still do not have tails😄. Excellent review--you really make me want to play it again!

ODD and the follow ups are great but can be really brutally difficult ! Maybe that is why they have longevity whereas other similar games have not. Love ODD and hope to see more after the third.

I actually like the style of bb a lot, it's very unique and cool,and btw the digital artbook by the devs explains a lot how they came up with it and why is it actually so great and helped them to save many money and time and make the game stand out in the crowd of indie turn-based rpg's

The tails were tricky but I didn’t think the tails were that hard to put on. I rotated the model so the freshly glued tails stood upwards and carefully hand balanced the model until the glue set enough to place it on the table without the tail falling off immediately. Usually three minutes or so. Once it set enough to be put on the table, I braced the freshly glued tails tails from sinking by placing an object under it until the glue firmly set. A few hours just to be sure. I did this for four aliens at a time … and did 8 a day over two days. I think anyone with miniature model assembly experience would be totally fine with this, but I could see the casual board gamer being freaked out about this requirement to play the game. I enjoyed it :) Nice video review!

I found the whole concept of the endurance cards the differences between recycling, discarding, exhausting, equipping, player hands, events and hazards really hard to come to terms with. It certainly isn't intuitive and I think the rule book needed a walk through.

Theres a fair bit of problems with BB and it really adds onto the frustration/appeal of the game. Granted some of them fall into personal intepretations, whatever builds you're rocking. How favourable the rng has been with you, or how its bent you over without your consent. 1) Grinding. Grinding battles that can take several minutes long to two hours. Fights in BB are all about tactics and strategy. Along with weapons, shielding, skills. Knowing the enemies you face, their skills/how many points they have.. But atop of that. The rng dice rolls. That can say "Nah screw you" multiple times in a row. But I digress Battles can take forever. But thats not all. If you loose brothers in the early game constantly, you will be spending all crowns made in fights to replenish brothers. Some that could have such amazing star placement and potential. You need to constantly buy food, tools, ammo, herbs. But the main constant.. Is grinding out battles constantly. Otherwise you will not be able to progress into the game easily. 2) RNG. The rng of BB is frustrating. Look up anyone playing the game and you'll hear them gripe about it. Playing it. Watching the battle log. Seeing a brigand stunning your brother with a 23% chance through a shield wall. Frustrating, but whatever. A goblin with a dagger landing a 3 and 5 back to back. Delivering poision, causing two injuries. Theres a good chance you and whomever you're watching. Frothing at the mouth and releasing curses and profainities. Sometimes you can have amazing rng that saves a brothers life, and you'll feel so relieved.. But at the same time. You may also feel as if.. You're given it, like a pity victory. But when the AI lands so many low rng chances to hit. Such as 20+ percentages, it gets frustrating. When you brothers have 70%+ chances to hit.. And miss constantly. And it leads to their death. 1/5 BB players will restart the fight and be unpleasant, usually abit of ranting and swearing. 3) Unfair elements. The AI gets cheats, such as infinite ammo for archers, crossbow wielders, gunners. Cannoneers. That's BS. Why does the ai get this overpowered advantage whilst you do not? Pure gameplay reason. Forcing you to move in. Making fights dianamic and intense. Why does all enemies recover 20 fatigue, even humans. While only you recover? Gameplay. So the enemy can stay in the fight longer to be more a challenge. So wearing them down is a bigger hassle. Why does the AI get such stupidly high resolve. In the high 70-100's? Gameplay. So they don't break their resolve and flee the field. Handing you the win. Why is it every expansion, such as the Barbs and Southern units all suck to fight? Gameplay. They are supposed to be tough fights. To be markers and guides in your game, but also because screw you. Both groups have terrible loot, sure their weapons can be good to wield. But generally, the loot and value of their equipment. Sucks. Especially when brigand party gear is much more worth to sell, much easier to kill. And just better choices. Their stats are so stupidly good. They are better then any brother you can ever recruit. And sometimes outright better then a brother that has been in a company of 500 days. Unbreakable weapons. Their weapons will never break. Which isn't that big a deal.. But at the same time. If you had a full hp weapon and went into a fight that breaks. Chances are that fight is out of your depths. Numbers: Unless you are playing Peasant militia( you poor soul. If you do) You will only be able to field 12 (16 for militia) at a time. Your enemies can have up to 34 in a party. And you can train enemy parties (As long as they share the same faction/banner. Brigands helping brigands. Orc n orc. Etc) So you could face so much more. I've seen a guy fight his party of 12 vs 100 brigands. Theres some YT vids of similiar stuff. But the enemy can drown you in numbers, theres nothing you can do. 4) Unfavourable map rng. You can come across so many awful maps for various reasons. Villages spawning with scant specialized shops. Or so distant between settlement-settlement. Making travels days apart. Trying to move from north to south via port. To city to city. Not only that. The enemies. Southern and northern bands segment off those regions of the map anyways, you'll make far more money being in the middle zone of the map. Killing brigands, doing contracts for the middle zone. And its much safer and easier to train brothers on. 5) The enemies. The many.. many enemies. Brigands. best and easiest foes to slay. Your company's bread and butter. Essential early game, decent equipment. Especially their leaders. Barbarians. bullshit. Thrall's have the stat of standard level 4 brother. With level 5 brother equal of perks. Tons of stamina. Resolve. Their weapond especially. They only get more scarier and scarier. And more bullshit. Until Blazing deserts. Lindwurm, schrats and barbarian Chosen were the scariest enemies to fight. The south.. Added more. Nomad Executioners. Nomad Stalkers. Blade Dancers. Cannons. These enemies are scary good. Exe and stalkers are equal to a level 15 brother. Stat wise. With more perks then you can ever unlock. Which is bullshit. Southern army. Bullshit. Their units have nimble dodge, with tons of hp and resolve. Good skills across the board. And theres so many of them. Their gunners can prevent you from ever landing a hit. Whilst their cannons blast your brothers, since they use overwhelming numbers to hold you down. Their loot is crap in value, compared to northern armies. All the enemies introduced via Blazing deserts. Are bullcrap mechanically and functionally. And their weapons are all crap, heavier and less effective then all other weapons. I can go on and on for hours bashing the game. I have nearly.. 1,500 hours on BB? I love the game. I love it so much, best game I have ever played. But god damn I feel like the game gives me Stockholm's at times.

Chapter 1 has been released in the game lore. Work orders have been removed in favor of a ship percentage scale. Sort of forcing people to "use the whole buffalo" thing. The grinding to get to the bigger, harder ships has been increased and so has your debt to 1.25 billion when you start. Keys have been removed so you don't have to worry about collecting them and they have some voice acting now. And more types of ships to rip apart.

I'm glad to see someone else recognize the absolute nightmare those tails were! I stopped part way through assembling minis and didn't come back to it for almost a month because I couldn't bring myself to work with those tails again. Mini assembly is the true horror in this game.

Beautiful review, absolutely loved the aliens film as a kid and I would too would have loved this to have been around. Need i just need a copy of the game... and some friends

If I were to suggest a few things for future additions to the game, 1) A character organizer tray like the ones in Zombicide Black Plague, maybe have one for the endurance, discard, exhaust cards as well. 2) More cards so that you could customise your endurance deck. 3) More scenarios, like what if company believed Ripley and sent the team to the colony before events in the movie? Rescue as much survivors? Or have a solo play with only Newt, stealth missions on how she actually survived going into tunnels?
