May be you guys find a place where they give appointment to you. Then the person will wait for you there to guide you. As you already live in Germany, you know that most people dont speak English, try to bring German friends with you if you are not confident of your language. Also the way you approach them is very important. I mean, what exactly your favourite brand, model you prefer, your budget.... etc As one of you is an Indian, you know how it works even if you move to a different state in India, you need local language or local people help to buy a car or rent a house. I accept some Germans are rude but most of them are very kind and helpful.

This year 2024, car sale for German cars is slow, both in domestic and international markets. China is dumping cars at below production cost. In such slow market the sales person does not care about potential buyer is surprising! You can get use to getting “lower class” treatment, but Araceli, you are right, no one should treat you bad like this!

@@araceligonzaleza I think it is attitude of German raised people. I had experience at Munich airport about five years ago. I landed at the airport, found car rental place and showed my booking. Two girls sitting there chatting. They gave strange look. I raised my voice. Then she says- are you from America? I nodded, she said this is lunch break time. Pl come after 12:30! I had to wait for 45 mins after 8 hours flight.

I work in Germany. They not only attempt to doutrinate foreigners by forcing them to learn german as they are proud of being incompetents at work, treating otheres like sh... It is unfortunately a strange combination but i do jot know any other country that treat qualified foreigners as bad. I think it is a mentally ww2. I do not care if people talks my own language in my country as long as we can communicate in English...why others do?! Ignorance

In the description you wrote " it is better to show both faces " Thus: I would like to hear the same story from the "other side". I bet it will be different. It seems you have some experience with other countries. There always will be pros and cons. Thus my question is: can you name three countries where you experienced more friendliness... (and to show both faces) also teach us what´s the drawback with them, why you did chose not to live there.
@araceligonzaleza
@araceligonzaleza 2 ай бұрын
I agree with you that there will always be pros and cons for every country. However, Germany is one of the countries where I have felt a 'lack of friendliness' compared to other countries. In my country, if you are a foreigner and cannot speak Spanish, I am sure we would find another way to help you. That doesn't happen here very often. This is not to say that everything in Germany is bad. Just as I share many good things about Germany, I think it's fair to also share the things that "are not so good"

It seems to me that you went their as if in market to buy potatoes. First of all in many such places , you have to go with appointsments and most of their clients are old customers who came to change their cars with new one in 3 to 5 years. Also the customers normally well informed about technical details about their purchase. Also normally the customer relationship manager does not talk so much other stuffs like in India and cold.

We were ready to start the process of buying a specific car from that place. We already knew the price, which was ok to us. The car looked great from the outside. However, since it was a used car, we needed to ask for the technical specifications or report, which I assume this salesman could help us with. However, he refused to assist us because he assumed we didn't speak German and that "he does not want to waste his time with us"

Exactly, in that case he could just explained to us that an appointment is needed. This person did not care at all about selling a car 🙃
@rck-k1m
@rck-k1m 2 ай бұрын
what was your exact goal? Was the seller the representative for all of Germany? If you buy a car in Germany, it must be registered before you can drive it on German/European roads. You buy a car, you need a license plate and you have to register it. The car also needs a valid technical inspection from the "TÜV". The process, including license plates, can sometimes take days or weeks.
@araceligonzaleza

We went to the "used cars" showroom. We had already been there 2 or 3 times, and the last time we went, we finalized the car we wanted to buy. The car looked good, and the price was also fine for us, so we approached this person to ask about the process to start the purchase. Of course, I understand that I can't drive the car home the same day because of all the documentation needed. That's not the point here. The point is that to start the sales process, this person refused to assist us as he stated "He will just waste his time trying to talk to us in German". From that the only thing I can assume from this person is that he is ready to assit only if you are german or speak ""Muttersprache Deustch"

Based on your description it doesn't sound like racism, it sounds more like the typical dreaded lack of service/friendliness that German has a pretty bad reputation for. This type of thing happens to native Germans of all colors quite often too. Sometimes I get the impression that businesses don't have any interest in selling their stuff. Bad service, unfriendly staff is really quite common unfortunately. On the bright side, this ends at the border usually. Greetings from a native German.
@araceligonzaleza
@araceligonzaleza 2 ай бұрын
I agree with you. It may be that, based on what I described in the video, it doesn't seem like an act of racism. However, when dealing with the person, you can feel the disdainful treatment you receive, whether it's in the way they look at you or talk to you. And that's what I felt. Furthermore, this person was completely unwilling to give us a chance to speak to him in German. He told us that he would only be wasting his time trying to speak German with us. I find that completely out of place to behave like this with a client. I have a C1 level in German and I think it’s unfair that he didn’t even let us speak. To me, that is racism.

@@araceligonzaleza Yeah but I've had this type of stuff happen to me as a native (both language and "skin"/culture) German as well. Not in terms of language barrier, but certainly in terms of being too lazy to explain details to me. Sort of the attitude of "I'm not going to explain and show you all the details, go educate yourself and come back once you made your decision" kind of things. And in your case, yeah the language barrier would have made it slightly more difficult/time consuming for them and they just were too lazy. It's rude, it's disrespectful, but frankly this happens to native Germans quite often, too. Germans have a term for this: "Servicewüste Deutschland"
